    Got me hornet 250 serviced

    Chain oiled
    Plugs: 4-CR8EA-9 = 46.00
    Air filter: Cleaned
    Oil Filter: New HF 111 = 10.00
    Oil: 3 liters = 30.00
Additional work: clutch cable adjusted, Slow puncture fixed
    Labour 1hr 1/2 = 68.00

    Total cost = 180.00

    Does this sound reasonable?

A tad expensive, is it a K&N filter? A new one should cost about €17-20
It should have taken a hour for a decent mechanic to do that, did they put a bung in the tyre or patch it from the inside, if they did patch it that would have taken a bit longer.

3 liters of oil? Hmm sounds like alot of a 250.

Still though, depending on labor costs. That sounds right for a basic service. Your lucky. My 6000 mile service is on monday the 4th of Sept. It will cost €400 odd. But there is a ton getting done. Including heated grips :D how I miss them so lol

i work in a bike shop, and that sounds ridiculous. plug prices and filter sounds right. we charge 4.95 for a litre of oil, 3 litres sounds a bit mad, and the hour and a half labour would have only costed you 45.00. where did you get it done?

Lads, in fairness, the labour he was charged was 45 Euro per hour. That's a fair rate.

Indeed it is fair. Most places charge between 35 to 50 so its not bad at all. Smaller places tend to be cheaper. As well as places futher out from the city. The only thing I have a gripe about is the 3 liters of oil. sounds like a lot.

The price of 3 litres of engine oil would be about 30 euros retail. Doing it for 4.95 a litre is doing it at cost price or using very cheap unbranded oil.

Can any recommend a good place, southside dublin, to get a bike serviced, Got a CBR-250 and the place i bought from charges 60 a hour for labour which i feel is a bit dear.

There's a good few Dubs on www.cbr250.com they might be able to help you with a manual, you could do the light work by yourself, oil, filters, maybe plugs if you have the tools.

    im confused
46+10+30+68=154 [im guessing they added vat? so 55eu p/h labor]
    but it still seems expensive.
oil should be tennerish a liter, but 3 litres sounds like they spilt a bit ;)

i would usually get a chain and sprockets or new tyres when getting the bike serviced so the labor costs are split and usually get a discount for buying all at once so that might be why it seems dear to me

Finaly, lol 3 liters for a 250? If I recall, my Dragstar 250 only used a Liter and a half to fill to the max mark.

well, i think a hornet should take about 2.5 lites to fill completely.
so im guessing they just rounded up a fair bit, or spilt half a liter.

afaik crusiers dont take nearly as much oil as real bikes.........:D  ;)

The Hornet's a four cylinder bike so it's going to have more oilways and a bigger sump. The engine is derived from a sportsbike, more oil capacity helps stop the oil overheating when the engine is getting a lot of stick.

In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.
