you may be interested to know that I got stopped by the gardai this morning, on the malahide rd, He took all my details and told me I was stopped for driving in the bus lane, he said he wouldnt bust me but in future stay out of it, I then told him that Motorcycle cops told me the opposite, drive in it its safer... He replied yes. yes there are conflicting stories, but Im the head of the traffic department in this area, and im telling you stay out of it....

Dont think he was ever going to bust me, but he could have been in a bad mood... and I was thinking thats Penalty Points next time....

Like the Gardai have nothing better to be doing....some of them really are Shoitehawks. When is "Uncle Gaybos's" propsed change in the law to allow motorbikes drive legally in buslanes expected to happen? Is there anyway we as a group of bikers can lobby for this change? any ideas?

I got stopped there as well. As you said I don't think he was going to charge anyone, unless maybe no tax or dodgy number plate, both of which they are apparently checking on as well. So I would not have been surprised if they were using the bus lanes as an excuse to do total bike checks.

Either way, I was back in the bus lane by Fairview!! :D

I had a quick look at the Penalty points website to see if riding in the bus lane is a pointable offence. Maybe "Failure to comply with traffic lane markings" covers it; if not, there's no points.

Anyhow, when/if a guard stops me, I don't think it's the best plan to wind 'em up. I'd agree with him, get back on the road and use the bus lane out of his sight. :p As posted earlier, I've been pulled over by one cop and advised to USE the bus lane rather than filter.

I reckon it was just the gard got out of the wrong side of bed or maybe he's not a morning person?

I've used bus lanes in front of gards sitting in a 4x4, in front of bike cops and no problems. If you act the maggot, they will pull you in. They can't be seen to allow feckless driving either. OP, you were riding responsibly, not riding up the @rses of cyclists not like some bus drivers I've experienced?...

Yep going quite slow, the bus lane was clear, no Busses, cyclists or anything... In fact I was almost driving on that big white buslane road marking.

He was in good form, I wouldnt have mentoned the Motorcycle guard otherwise... Just told him I was a bit confused...

His list had a lot of details, reckon he just wanted a list for bikes for himself, Maybe he is going to organise a party and invite us all, he didnt even take down my full address,

Had a few pints last night, thank fup I went home early, and didnt smell of alchol this morning..

Maybe they're trying to guage how many of us are using the bus lanes?

he got out of bed on the wrong side. I know for a fact that the traffic unit are instructed not to inforce this and to concentrate on the cars in the bus lanes

I saw that the other morning too, I thought it was one of them biker days and I was going to be pulled in and hence be late for work, they had 3 bikes pulled in and were busy so I got to sail by with some other lad on a scooter, it's rare you'll hear of someone being done for driving in the bus lane on a bike, they have every right to pull ya since the law remains that bikes aren't allowed in bus lanes, they've changed the law in Britain if I remember correctly.

Driving in Bus Lanes is one thing but saw a nutter last weekend driving in the hard shoulder of the M50 undertaking quite a lot of traffic, must have passed out at least 30 cars and didn't even bother moving out of it afterwards; just continued on and took dundrum exit still in hard shoulder!
