So i bought an acer aspire around 9months ago, its the 1650 i believe. Now this has been sat on a desk for most of its life but recently iv been taking it mobile a lot more.
Iv noticed something strange with regards to the DVD writer. Basically any slight nudge or bumb to the laptop seems to activate the machanism controlling the laser reader - if that makes any sense :o . That little component which slides up and down, every time the laptop gets a bumb i can hear this thing sliding back and forth, wether there is a cd in or not.
Surely this cant be right? Any other aspire owners experience this?

    Cheers
    Endo

Its down to Acersourcing dodgy DVD drives as far as I can see, some last ages, some fail after few months but the failures are never definate if you get me they stop burning dvd's or reading cd's etc,the drives never "fully" stop working.

Could i replace the one that is in here? Do you think if i told them about this they would change it under the warranty? I still have 2-3 months left.

Give it a go with the warranty , better to try and fail than not try at all!

Drive can be replaced easily enough but will be expensive enough too!
