video conferencing with AIM on iChat

I have been trying to get a video conference set up between myself and a friend for most of the evening. My friend is using AIM on a PC while i am using AIM through iChat. The problem we are having is when either of us try to begin a video conference there is no connection made.

The message just says that the invite has been rejected by the other user.

I thought that the mac version and the windows version of AIM support wideo conferencing now.

there are also no other chat clients open on either side

has anyone ever had problems with this or can they lead me in the right direction to get a video conference set up?

    thanks.

It could be a firewall issue, or some other obscure problem.

What about trying Skype? Both the Mac and Windows versions of Skype now support video conferencing, and Skype is also well known to offer the best audio quality. Not to mention it's very good at getting around routers or firewalls. Give it a go, it's the best solution all round.

I had lots of problems setting up iChat, but I've solved most of them and am now able to have video chats from iChat - iChat. I know this is not exactly your situation, but I bet as Urban Weigl said it's a firewall issue and probably something to do with your router.
I have eircom broadband and I had to upgrade the firmware on the supplied router, plus set up some port tunnelling to get around all the problems!!

    Are you with Eircom?

The only problem I have now is bandwidth! the video quality from my side is quite bad, but the video quality from the person I'm calling is, well, as good as I was expecting. It's all down to bandwidth. If you want to run the iChat app close all other file sharing apps or anything that is uploading from your MAC. This improves the video quality and provides a more stable connection...

That's sound advice there Salamander. I just wanted to add that Skype 2.0 Beta is now out for Mac. You can download it here. Hopefully this will end the confusion of there being two versions of Skype for Mac, one that supports video and one that doesn't.
