    ...return in December! \o/

Well they're playing the Roisin Dubh in Galway on the 15th but I'm sure a Dublin gig will be announced shortly. Support comes from Big Business.

As far as I know, this is more kinda of a big-band thing with Big Business, like Melvins did with Fantomas. Dale, Buzzo and the Big Business drummer and bassist. (i.e. the whole band)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,135 ✭✭✭✭John

And the guys from Big Business are also in the Melvins now (who are a four piece with two drummers!) so it should be quite the night. I think Dublin is the 16th. Can't wait, I missed the Houdini show and cried.

I heard this too! Is your source on this reliable? Cos I doubt the reliability of mine!

EDIT: Unless your the guy who told me?

I've heard The Village in December too. The person who told me isn't the most reliable of sources and has a strange liking for petrol stations... but lets not get into that.
I sent the lovely people at The Village an e-mail asking them if this is true...If they let me know what the story is I'll be sure to post it here.

    About the two bands thing..

    This is from wikipedia

"In early 2006, Crover confirmed rumors of the members of Big Business joining the Melvins. Commenting on adding another drummer, Crover said this about Coady Willis: "He's left handed, so we want to do this 'mirror image' type of thing. We've kind of fused our two drum sets together, and we're going to try and do some crazy thing with it. We're sharing these big toms in between us."

    Sounds coo

There's some videos on You Tube of the new line up, the two drummers look class!

I'm gonna go to Galway to see them, it will be so awesome to see them ina tiny place like the Roisin Dubh. It'll be just like being in Seattle circa 1985 or something :p
When and where will the tickets for Galway be on sale?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 190 ✭✭Lucifer31

Tickets have been on sale since around August. I got mine back then. Bought them in Redlight Records here in Galway city. Couln't believe it when I saw it advertised in the local paper. It'll be a hell of a gig!

Rightio, does anyone know if any outlets in Dublin are selling tickets for this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,585 ✭✭✭honru

You can book tickets online for the Galway show over at the Roisin Dubh homepage.

I'm pretty sure there's no Dublin ticket outlet for these sort of gigs.

Independent Dublin promoters u:mack are having a Christmas party in the Village on saturday december 16. Artists who u:mack have promoted this year include Red Sparowes, Autechre, The Boredoms, Battles, High on Fire, Baroness, Deerhoof, !!! (chk chk chk), Sunno))), Acid Mothers Temple, Plaid, Vetiver (with a special guest appearance from Devendra Banhart), Mono, Mi And L'au, Venetian Snares and LFO, with Dinosaur
Jr, Propagandhi and Bardo Pond scheduled for December.

The party will be headlined by The Melvins, whose performances on their current American tour, which include duel drumming from Dale Crover with Coady Willis of Big Business (formerly of Murder City Devils), are being described as the best of their twenty year career. Check out this incredible live footage from september 10..
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9BDvyFCGYQ

Very, very special guests on the night are America's finest sleaze-art, anti-groove, brutally loved/hated punk rock band of all time, Flipper. Formed in april 1979 in San Francisco's Flipper are one of America's finest experimental bands. From their earliest performances they created their own aesthetic universe, driving at odds with the rest of the punk scene. "the other bands played fast so we played slow"
as bass player and vocalist Bruce Loose puts it. Their controversial live perfomances often featured confrontations with their audience, whom they notoriuosly split into either loving or hating them. Krist Novoselic of Nirvana will be guest bass player at this show.

The incredible power duo Big Business, Jared Warren (Karp), Bass guitar and Vocals and Coady Willis (Murder City Devils) on Drums, will be playing their own set before getting to work as part of The Melvins, and if thats not enough San Fransisco psychedelic stoner rockers Porn open the show!

We're not sure of set times or changeovers yet, but this all has to end by 11pm, So this party is going to start real early, doors are at 5.30pm.

    MELVINS
The Melvins are family entertainment on another level.
Some people say The Melvins are the wave of the
future. Some people think The Melvins have already
influenced a huge wave of music on a global level but
most people expect The Melvins to totally **** up.
Most people think they should be called "The ****s"
    because they're ****ed.

Well, maybe so, but nonetheless it's the last half of
2006 and The Melvins have a new new NEW album called
    (A) Senile Animal.

    (A) Senile Animal was recorded in Hollywood and as you
may or may not know. The Melvins have been through a
lot this last year: wars, drugs, impeachment but they
never lost sight of what was important AND what was
festering in their bowels. Once again the Melvins have
"started over" with two, count em TWO, new members,
Coady Willis and Jared Warren from the band Big
Business. This will be super colossal and totally
beyond reason. We can't even believe it's happening
but believe it or not it's becoming more and more
believable. No **** man! It's like that drug trip I
saw in a movie when I was on that drug trip.

And there it is my friends. One thing you can be sure
of is this (A) Senile Animal album is really really
great and it really works! It's ten songs long and is
most likely the best album they or anyone else will
put out this year or any previous year or ever
probably. They have double everything this time.
Double drums. Double, triple and even quadruple
vocals, double bass and guitar... Well, not really
double bass and guitar but... Well sort of double bass
and guitar but in order to explain how that works we
would have to get into a lot of technical mumbo jumbo
that even we don't understand so let's just leave it
at the double drums. DOUBLE DRUMS everybody!

And, AND... The Melvins will hit the road with Big
Business in September for a full United States tour.
Keep your eyes peeled for the dates in your town or at
least a couple of hundred miles from where you live.
Take a road trip with your friends and go see the
Melvins. Take time off from work, get your tickets and
go go go to the show show show. Or shows. You and all
your friends should go to as many of the Melvins shows
as you can because all sorts of crazy **** will be
happening. It will be un-****ing-believable and
besides, hell, why not? It will be a kick in the ass!

Well, earlier in 2006 and as usual the seemingly
tireless Melvins released yet another brand "new" CD.
Big surprise. This time, as a result of their strange
work last year in Europe with the famous Trevor Dunn
playing bass they've recorded a full length record
entitled "Houdini Live: A Live History of Gluttony and
Lust", which was released in May. So put down your
beer bongs and your crack pipes and dash out and buy
two or three copiesÉ or maybe twenty copies just in
case. Remember, this isn't bull**** so don't worry.

It would be criminally and morally irresponsible not
to get behind, promote and endorse The Melvins with
every tool (legal and illegal) possible. Get busy,
don't fight it, just do it!

    FLIPPER

Flipper began their career in San Francisco in 1979.
    There are as many
different versions of how they got their name as there
    are members in
the band. Jello Biafra was an early champion of the
    band shouting their
name from the rooftops in early DK interviews.

Countless others soon caught on and found themselves
    being influenced
by the band’s original droning, durdgy, grungy
    style. The term Grunge
Band was used to describe Flipper by Rolling Stone
    Magazine a full decade
before it became synonymous with Seattle.

Flipper has been covered by so many bands in the world
    it would be
impossible to name them, or even know them all. One
    such band that used to
play “Sex Bomb” at house parties in their
    humble beginnings was
Nirvana. Kurt Cobain was seen wearing his homemade
    Flipper shirt in all manner
of media and Krist Novoselic once stated that Flipper
    was every bit as
    important as Led Zeppelin.

In a crazy cool twist of fate, Krist Novoselic has
    joined Flipper on
bass for a handful of dates Flipper
is planning to rerelease their back catalogue next
year which will include an album’s worth of
never before released tracks from the “Gone
Fishin” sessions in 1984. In all, there will be
six releases over the course of 2007. In addition the
band will begin writing new material for a new album
which could be ready sometime next year, as well.

    ALSO IN DECEMBER:
    12.06.06 bardo pond. whelans
12.11.06 Dinosaur Jr. temple bar music centre
12.12.06 propaghandi. temple bar music centre
