    http://www.moviestar.ie

Unlimited DVD rental is a tenner a month and you get a free DVD player if you join up now and stay a member for four months......

    Thanks for the warning. Wouldn't touch these guys with a barge pole after reading that "Mirror" article;

And if you give those guys any of your personal details ...or a credit card number God forbid to get their 'free trial' ....
That doesn't help Nin Hammond very much though. Her details have now been sold to other competition companies, and she has been inundated with mail.

from the lower half of this BBC page here

This thread should be deleted or stickied, I am not sure which :(

Just a note on the "Free" dvd player. If you don't stay with them for 4 months they charge you €45 for the dvd player.

....why would I not use this company?

I am assuming the DVDs will get delivered.....
that I will be billed at the level I signed up for.

    Am I missing something?

All your details will be sold and you will be bombarded with junk mail.

....they are governed by the Data Protection Act. Their privacy policy from the web site states (see below):

So if I opt out and click all of the correct check boxes then that should not be a problem.
So I ask again - other than the morality of giving these guys money based on their previous business history, why would I not use a service half the price of competitors. Now yes I will take all of the normal advice (if it is so cheap why can't the others do it for this price

With their pedigree I have only two observations to make.

    1. Sure cooee, give them your credit card details and no worries mate :p
    2. and Not before Hell freezes over.

Have you seen the sections of the new Consumer Bill that have specifically been written because of these guys and their 'promotion' activities ?????

So does moviestar actually deliver the DVDs on time, provide a decent service or not? Otherwise this is headed for the bin.

I'd prefer to see something like this stickied and locked rather than deleted to warn off the gulible.
