    On behalf of son :-))

He was offered his 2nd choice with agood few points to spare.BUT is 5 points off his first choice. If he does nothing(not accept 2nd choice)he could wait to see if points drop for first choice, yes? If they dont, is the offer of 2nd choice still valid? Or is he then buggered for not accepting straight off?
This whole points thing is confusing, and the time limits are ridiculous!
Or if he appeals on one exam paper, and ups his pints (maybe) will he have to be offered his first choice???

He can accept his second choice and still be offered his first choice on a second round. But if he doesn't accept his second choice and doesn't get his first choice, he's left with nothing.

  • He can accept his second choice, and recheck his scripts, and if he goes up 5 points, will get his course.

Read around the posts here, also someone posted the number of the Exam Helpline.

    Maybe a good idea?

He can accept the 2nd choice and will still be offered his first if he has the points in the second round.
You could also get him to request a defferal on the course he was offered. That way it buys him some time before the second offers come out. If he doesn't get the first choice then the college which he asked for the defferal will either grant it or ask him if he still wants to take it this year.

    We did phone the helpline:D
And they said to phone the admissions office! Some twit.
Thought I'd ask here as well.
So basically he can accept 2nd choice straight off, and STILL be offered his 1st choice if point requirements happen to drop. I wasn't aware that if you accepted one offer, another would be made.

Actually he was thinking of deferring for a year to save some money, but apparently the wording on the letter is all important(according to his careers teacher)

  • Yes, the CAO tries to get you your favourite course if you become entitled to it.

If he thinks October (after the rechecks) is too late, he can choose to Defer his place till next year, and take a gap year. Maybe work for some greens for College?

;) So nothing to lose by accepting 2nd choice, as 1st could still be offered as well! That is great news - he was bit despondent as had his heart set on Genetics.
I so SO glad all these exams and stresses are over - it has not been great. But I suppose the end results are worth it!
