Anybody working in trading? as in stock markets, local or international markets.
I know there are alot of companies such as Davy's, Goodbody's ,Susqehanna etc, in Dublin now. Im interested in getting a job as a trader so anyone who's working in it, can you let me know do you like it?,is it challenging? is it difficult to get into coming from a I.T background?

    Thanks,

I know a guy who used to work on the Stock Exhchange. He did a business degree and managed to swing an interview from there and got the job straight out of college. I'm not too sure which company he worked for exactly but he left the job after about 5 months because of the stress and the competitive environment of the place. I think in general it is a fairly cut throat area to be involved in and even though the money is good, people end up generally leaving the job because they can't cope with the stress.

I too would be very interested in this but getting info on it seems to be about as difficult as finding out the cia noc list. Everyone knows someone but nobody seems to actually work for such a place. I think part of it is becuase it is not a big thing in ireland as most activity is based in London. Places like davy and goodbody mostly sell equities to people looking to invest a bit of cash i.e. you have mrs. smith looking to buy some shares out of the money her dead husband left her while in london your dealing in more complex markets with products such as derivatives and are buying and selling millions worth. the rewards, responsibilities and prestige is proportional. Thats my, admittedly somewhat uninformed, understanding of the situation. Fell free to correct me if anything I said is incorrect. Theres plenty of info out there on trading in general but Info on Ireland in particular seems to be a bit harder to come by.
