    Hi,

I was hoping to take 4 weeks off work and spend some time in Peru/Bolivia. However I have only been granted 3 weeks holidays and I don't think its really enough time for such a trip.
Can anyone who has been to these countries let me know what they think? Would I be better off spending 10 days in each or possibly concentrating on one or the the other?

Other options would be to go to Argentina or Brazil for the 3 weeks.

    Advice would be very welcome.

    Thinking of sometime around november.

    Adrian,

i havent been but my brother has. he loved argentina alot. he travelled around for 6 weeks i think. he didnt go to brazil properly, he just went to a waterfall on the border between argentina, brazil and uruguay i think, as it is suppoesed to be the roughest place.

he kept a blog of his travels which might help you http://misguidedtravels.blogspot.com/

his friend went with him for 3 weeks and he had a great time too.

    hope this helps you

I spent about 4 or 5 months in South America a couple of years ago. Due to your limited time I suggest you try and confine yourself to one specific area rather than spread yourself out over the three weeks. Distances in South America can be huge so if you tried to see or do everything you'd end up spending most of your time on buses.

You mentioned that you're thinking of heading towards Peru/Bolivia. Out of these two countries I much prefered Bolivia and I don't think you could go too far wrong by spending most of your time there. Three weeks would be perfect to comfortably take in La Paz and surroundings, the jungle/pampas area up north and the area around the salt plains in the south.

I agree with Afuera I also preferred Bolivia to Peru
If you were really hankering after Peru you could get a flight from what I remember from La paz to Cusco to see Macchu Picchu. Travel back then through copacabana with some time in Isla del sol area.

Thanks for your suggestions, Bolivia sounds like the way to go for me. Not really obscessed with the idea of Peru TBH. Hopefully I'll make it another time.

OP, I went to Argentina last October - spent nearly 3 weeks there and saw lots of the country. We went to Iquazu falls (another post mentioned these waterfalls - on the border with Brazil), Buenos Aires, and down south to Ushuaia. We also saw a bit of the pampas areas in the mid-west. I would totally recommend it as a destination to anybody. It's pretty reasonable price-wise too. The country is vast though - you could easily spend longer there if you wanted to.

i agree with the guys who recommend bolivia. for me it was much better than peru, although macchu pichu was amazing. bolivia is great value for money and i found the people quite friendly, they dont hassle you like they do in some areas of peru. the san pedro prison in la paz, the bike trip down the worlds most dangerous road & the silver mines in potosi are all real highlights. the salar de uyuni is great too. i had a great time in argentina also, but its quite european, whereas bolivia has much more indigenous people and more traditional lifestyle. if you have only 3 weeks i definitly recommend that you just pick one country. bolivia is small by comparison to argentina and brazil but its still a big country. the worst thing would be to spend too much time rushing around ticking boxes.

    hi ,

Thank you all for all your responses. I think Bolivia is a country I really want to visit soon, however it probably won't be on this trip for 2 reasons, the first is the flight is quite a bit more expensive to Bolivia and I dont really have time to go overland from Brazil/rgentina. Secondly it will be quite wet therre at the time of year I am going (Nov/Dec) so I think it will come down to a choice between Brazil and Argentina, I am not sure which yet but probably Argentina.
