Hip discomfort

One morning I awoke with an intense stiffness in my leg...I am 65 years old...I was told to engage in just the mimimum physical activity. Two weeks on there has been an improvement after medication but the discomfort is still restritive and I am fearful. I have until recently been an active cyclist and it has been suggested that I may have worn my hip. A physiotherapist is sceptical about arthritis. Has anyone any suggestions as to what the problem might be ? Could I be in need of a hip replacement?. Maureen 65, Limerick

Filan this is not a medical forum so it would be remiss of us to suggest causes and/or possible treatments.

I will move this thread to the Biology/medicine forum, but your best course of action might be to talk to another physiotherapist if you are unhappy with your current physio's diagnosis.

Very few people reading charters these days!

Filan, you need to go and get another opinion. Randomers on the Internet can't a) take a proper history, b) examine you, c) order any tests d) presrcibe you any medications that might be suitable.

Your GP can order the necessary blood tests and x-rays to rule in or out any possibility of arthritis. That should be your next stop.

    Good Luck.
