TV Card - using different software than what came with it

    I have this TV Card - https://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=312218

I'm unhappy with the software that's with it - is it possible to use other software? Or does it have to be what comes with it?

    Thanks.

Media Portal - full media center style app & free.

ChrisTV - commercial TV viewing software, lots of tweaking options.

GB-PVR - another media center style app also free though it may or may not work with your tuner.

Cyberlink PowerCinema - commercial media center style app.

One of those should hopefully work out for you. Make sure you have the latest driver installed as well.

If Media Portal doesn't detect the tv card in the settings is that it? Or is there a way to manual add one to it?

Couldn't say I use WinXP MCE as my media center so I'm not overly familiar with media portal.

You should ask in their hardware forum and someone should be able to give you a definitive answer.

I don't know if the MSI TV @nywhere Plus is a hardware encoding card or purely software based one but on Media Portals wiki when you click on either the hardware or software analogue section in it you will find a link on how to manually add a card.

Failing that you can request support for a TV card if you put in some of the work and send it to them, see this thread.

Moved to HTPC, better suited there I think.

off the cuff Media Portal should work. Ive used some pretty dodgy software cards with it without any issues.

Just out of further curiousity, and slightly OT, is it possible to stream content captured by a TV card on one PC to another PC on the network?

/me dreams of watching TV on the gicker

    Yes, ish.

To have control of or watch Live TV can only be done with MythTV and GBPVR. Although its only supported on MythTV for which the "server" end is linux only. There is a client end for windows. You can also initate a stream from MythTV of recorded TV, choose your desired bitrate and watch the stream with VLC, Media player, Winamp etc.

GB-PVR is networkable, but it is still experimental.

There is a networkable solution in the pipeline for Media Portal.
