ah it's not the best but as you are only going to be across the road you aren't going to get closer.

They only have the one squat rack and bar that well errrr, actually bar that and a bit of free space and an oly bar I generally don't use that much else.

dumbells only go up to 30kg, I have my own set of oly dumbell handles jsut haven't had the chance to bring them up yet to see if they say anything

ah ye they have 5 bench's, 3 smith machines, and quite a few cable stations so you should be sorted

best bet is just go up and take the tour

I joined the gym about 2 months ago and I can not say a bad word about it.

The staff have been nothing but helpful, any questions they are always willing to help.

There are so many cardio machines I have never had to wait to get on one and I get there at peak hour.

I'm only a newbie to the gym so don't know much about weights and the likes but there seems to be a lot of them. At peak times there are a lot of people around the weights area so you may have to wait a while for them.
The opening hours are pretty good 7 or 7:30 ( I can't really remember) - 10 Monday to Thursday, and to 9 on Friday. Saturdays are 9-6:30 and Sunday is 9-6

Having the tv and radio stations on the tv's helps you disassociate yourself from the gym its self and you can focus on your own workout.

They also have a lot of classes, both evening and lunchtime classes and they cater from novices like myself to adavnced classes also

ah jayus if you are only on the jamestown road you might as well just join northwood as you pretty much would be going past it if you went up to Ballymun to get on to the M50.

Anyway it depends what do you want out of a gym, you might be best just going to all 3 and then deciding which ones suits you best

i joined northwood 3 weeks ago as its extremely handy for me living in the northwood complex its a min walk away from my flat. its two floors with the bottom floor filled with four different types of cardio machines ( treadmill, bike, crosstrainer and step machines with dozens of each) also downstairs there is a 25 meter pool ,2 25 seater jacuzzis, a lie down jacuzzi, 2 saunas and 2 steam rooms.
Upstairs is the weights area with pretty much any type of resistance and free weights you can imagine. also there is the rest of the cardio equipment upstairs.
When you join you also get a personal plan set out for you by one of the many helpful personal trainers.

im in it 15 months and have found it excellent.

SO handy to get to, if you live within NW, that you find your self just going to the spa or a quick wok out instead of the cursed telly !! :)

Its very clean well run and has everything your average to above average fittness head would want.

Perhaps it lacks a little at the very specialist high end ( greater than 30kg DBs  etc ) that only real HUUGE guys need.....but I have never found it lacking in any dept.

The misus can even avail of the regular free classes in variuos aerobic work outs.

Few of us gonna join up tomorrow, as we are working a stone throw from the place for the next few months. Its €165 each when you go 3ways, kinda hard to find better value. Unfortunatly the only time we will be there will be close on peak time, but most gyms are like that these days anyway.

Ill report back with more findings after ive joined

Aye, people whine and moan about it being busy all the time. Yes it is but it doesn't mean you can't still work out!! Waiting two minutes for a bar does NOT ruin a workout!

hey...what are the real busy peak times?? and has anyone gone to any of the classes at northwood?? Are they good??Are they mad busy?? Cheers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 346 ✭✭HooohRaaah

My girlfriend works right beside here and was wondering how much they are charging these days? How busy would it get at around 17:30 ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,168 ✭✭✭Frank Spencer

Think it's €295 for membership atm.

Does be at its busiest at 17:30 but if it's cardio machines she's looking to use then it won't be too bad.

What are the chances of haggling them down from €295

moving to the area this month, thinking of joining this gym. Is there any other gyms nearby people would recommend over this? (will be driving so anywhere 15 mins or so from Clontarf-ish area)

    few questions:
    1. is there parking?
    2. how busy is it (generally and during peak times)?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,399 ✭✭✭✭ThunbergsAreGo

Yes there is parking, not always spaces though, it can be busy enough in the evenings but iv never really had to wait for anything

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4 all_aboard

Yeah, thinking of joining here also....Hard to find better value. Will have to go check it out, sounds like they are over accepting members and get very busy at times.

Whats is like @ 6:30 am?

Maybe the DCU gym could be an option? Living in Marino. Any other suggestions greatly appreciated.

    Westwood (pricey)
    Unique physique in Kilbarrack
    Muscle Factory in baldoye
    Slender health in Raheny

Thats all I know off the top of my head in the clontarish area.
