I am wondering if anyone would happen to have information on councillors/therapists around the Galway area. Any information would be appreciated, thank you.

Most GPs will have a list of some local counsellors.

I think needhelp means therapists, not politicians! :)

You should try contacting the IACT (Irish Association for Counsellors and Therapists). They have a website, (address below) or you can phone them and ask for a list for your area. These cousellors are all accredited. Another option, would be to ask at GP surgeries in the area, as they often have contact lists of reputable counsellors.

I was looking for some myself recently. Theres an agency called "Pro Consult" that you can call, but the waiting list is pretty long if you work 9 - 5 like me!

I've heard great things about Alan Delahunty. And then there's Dagmar Drabent, who I am currently seeing. Both are very qualified. Dagmar uses hypnosis to get you more in touch with yourself for the session.

This isn't the kind of hypnosis you see on tv. The term hypnosis is misleading, although correct. Its more like guided meditation. You're in complete control.

Dagmar is good if you don't really know whats wrong. Which is my case. Although I'm starting to see clearly now, which is good.

A friend of mine goes to Alan Delahunty and finds him excellent.

    Best of luck with it!

    That sounds awfully like advertising.

What a careless and flippant comment Victor. I'm a regular poster here, but I went unreg'd for this because I'm sharing my personal experience.

And which one am I desperately trying to to get that one extra client for? The psychologists at Pro Consult, Alan Delahunty or Dagmar Drabent?

As I said, I am going to Dagmar Drabent, but felt that the term hypnosis needed clarification - I certainly didn't know what it was and neither do most people I've spoken to about it.

And also, I have heard great things about Alan Delahunty.

Pro Consult were recommended to me by a psychologist (recommended to me by my GP) that couldn't fit me in for the foreseeable future. But Pro Consult also couldn't fit me in.

This is information I would have been happy to have had a few years ago instead of wandering through the golden pages.

I've re-read my post a few times since seeing your comment, and I still don't see where you're coming from. I realize that you have the interests of the original poster at heart, but it's still careless and ultimately pointless. You didn't offer or ask for any information or clarification. You just unreasonably discredited my post.

As a counsellor myself I recommend calling the IACP( Irish Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists). They have the registered listing. All counsellors on this list have completed a minimum of 550 hours of counselling to be registered and they can give you a description of what the specialities of various counsellors are.. Another registering body is the NAPCP ( the national association of Pastoral counsellors and Psychotherpists) which may have a more spiritual connection.
It is important to find a fully accredited counsellor.
