1-2 hand from Vegas

This hand happened against a very good Irish player in the Orleans Casino in Vegas.

Some background. My table image is on the loose side of TAG. I get a little crazy sometimes. Earlier the villain in theis hand opened for ten oin the CO and I reraised to 30 on the button. I'd been doing that a lot. The flop came K-K-8. He checked I bet 40, he called. Turn a J. I bet 60 he folded pocket tens. I showed A-9.

The next hand happened about an hour later with basically the same preflop action and an almost identical flop.

Villain opens for 10 and I make it 35 oin the button with AK. We are both pretty deep stacked. I have $700. He has about $1600!! He calls before making the comment "I'll see if I can hit a flop" . The flop is K-K-2. He checks and I bet. 50. He min raises to 100. I call.

The Turn is Jack. He checks. I bet $150. He calls.

    What does he have?

You should think about this a bit more.

First - we need to see the river
Second - AA wont (shouldnt) call a shove.

Actually he was Irish, very good and someone most people in Dublin would know. He doens't post here though.
He's also intelligent enough to know its unlikely I'll run the same bluff twice so he needs to have a real hand when he calls the turn.

Once he called me on the turn I was sure he had pocket 2s. If he went all in on the turn although I would have found it really dificult I think I might have folded and I was prepared to check behind on the river.

but...the river was an ace. :D and he checked.

I bet $200. He paid me off with the 2s. Ouchies!! :)

for info Nicky - why not bet at least $400 into the 570-ish pot?

is he good enough to fold 22 to this bet but not to $200?

You're right I should have bet more but this hand was after we'd drank atleast 27 strawberry dacaris each.

    mmm 27 strawberry daiquiris.....

this Court accepts your plea of mitigating circumstances. You are free to go but don't do it again or you won't get off so easy next time.

    oh and for info:

    Daiquiri recipe

I would drink a lot of these if I lived in Limerick...:)

He may be a good player but he butchered this hand, I also hate your bet on the river.

Just thinking more about this hand, the villain played it almost as badly as possible.

Preflop he calls a reraise oop with a marginal hand to a good player, ok the stacks are deep but this is still dodgy.

On the flop he lets you know that he likes his hand, so stops you bluffing. His hand, whilst effectively the nuts on the flop isnt going to look so good by the river. Then he charges you the very minimum to draw out on him. This whole check min raise line is fine against a fish, but against a good players its terrible. Check calling is better, check raising big is better, leading is better. I suppose he could of folded which would ofbeen worse!

On the turn he checks! He is allowing another free card which is awfull, because he will never fold his hand. You will always have 2 outs or more. Freeroll! Also he fails to build the pot.

Then the river comes. Not leading here if awful. I just read HOH3 and there was a good phrase in this, its called a negative freeroll. His hand is quite strong, but its unlikely you ever bet a worse hand, you will just chk behind with AA AK and so on. So he lets you play this street perfecty, never giving you the chance to to call when your behind, but always calling when he is beaten. He should lead this and fold to a raise.

This hand is quite interesting because it covers a lot of common mistakes that experienced players make.
