GP Information System

I was just wondering if GP's had any method of sharing patients medical records i.e if they use the same Information System for storing notes they make during visits? As far as I know they don't. Wouldn't it make more sense to do so, rather than depending on patients to update them if they change GP's.

It's a complete nightmare. They are trying to do this in the UK with just NHS hospitals and it's costing them zillions.

There are several GP practice software solutions even just in the Irish market.

However, I think there's a good arguement for defining a generic XML data-model to describe patient history that can be used globally.

yeah, i was thinking along the same lines. an xml 3-tier model wouldn't be to expensive/difficult to develop. data security would of course be important, but again not too difficult.
