OP: u need to do some work here yourself as LI is a function of a very large number of variables that different insurance co's treat differently

the following link under life companies
    http://www.ifsra.ie/frame_main.asp?pg=%2Fregulated%5Ffirms%2Frf%5Fintr%2Easp&nv=%2Fregulated%5Ffirms%2Frf%5Fnav%2Easp

has a list of 66 companies which makes a starting point.
If they all refuse you must be already dead:D :D:D

if ur gettin a mortgage ur best bet is to go with whatever the bank is offering you for the first year as that will enable you to get your mortgage quicker and then every year thereafter you can shop around. thats what i did and it worked out grand and the ins my bank (ebs) offerred was quite competatiive (or maybe i was lazy) so i stayed with them this year also.im sure other posters will have diff opinions but that is my expierance anyhoo

This would be house insurance as life assurance is not renewed every year!

In my experience, life cover is worth sitting and thinking about. The cheapest form of cover (usually mortgage protection) only offers death benefit and although this might be the only requirement of the bank...if it is within your budget, it may also be worthwhile looking at other options that might have you out of work long term (and possibly without a salary) like serious illness, income protection or mortgage repayment protection too.

Anyway if Mortgage Protection is all you are looking for...i'd start with a broker or Irish Life, Eagle Star, & Hibernian who I have found competitive.

    Best of luck,
    Seany

www.LABrokers.ie for the cheap and cheerful package - John is very good and I seem to remember the first year's policy being discounted by 50%

    Nick McGrane at monitum
is very competitive and I found the service very good, fast and easy to contact with questions. I'm not sure how it works exactly but our premium was 148euro per year and we got back ~105euro in the first year.

(disclaimer: i have no relationship to the company etc!)

As of 2010, Monitum is still operating and the service is still exemplary. The turnaround time is really quick and when we emailed with questions, we got a phone call within a couple of hours. Really recommend this service. I also have no personal association with the business, other than as a very happy customer
