Okay so i'm looking to connect my ibook to my television. I have an iBook G4 12" and have already established that I need an Apple Video Adapter (which is available online from Apple for 19 euro) which i need to connect to the minVGA port on my ibook. The Apple Video Adapter has connections for s-video and composite devices and will only provide video (I have to connect audio seperately).

The thing is i really don't know much about s-video and composite connections. What kind of cable do I need? I know scart leads can carry both s-video and RGB component video. My televison only has two connections on the back, for SCART and for the pipe cable (does anyone know what you call this kind of connection/cable?)

Also i need a cable to connect from the headphone jack of my ibook to the audio in on my tv but I'm not even sure if my tv has audio in. Is it standard in tvs?

I'm sorry if i'm not making any sense. I've tried googling but have only found more confusion.

    Can anyone help me?

What make/model is your tv? TV's, as far as I'm aware, do not have a direct line-in for sound, but rather the sound is carried through the scart (or other?) connection. It depends on the tv of course.

This is called a 'coaxial' connection. It's been the most common type of connection for cable tv for the last few years.

Coaxial - of course. Thanks, ButtermilkJack.

I've a pretty crappy 28" Beko, features are very limited. I suspected as much about the sound. So what I need then is some sort of s-video cable/SCART adapter which can also take the audio from my ibook. Is there such a thing? lol

You can get either an S-Video to S-Video cable (if your TV has that connection- looks a bit like a mouse or keyboard port) or just get S-Video to SCART, which your TV will defo have.

yeah i need an s-video to SCART adapter which will also connect to the headphone jack on my ibook. I found a place online that sells exactly what i'm looking for (i think). They also sell the apple adapter and have free shipping.

I don't know but they look legit to me. What do you guys think? Will this work?

May not be exactly the solution you're looking for, but I got one of these in the US (you should be able to find them on the AppleStore here) and it's perfect quality -

    Monster iTV Link for iBook

    - does audio and video. I then installed Sailing Clicker and used my mobile phone asa remote control for my laptop and sat on the other side of the room watching DIVX files. :D

You'll need the SCART adapter mentioned above if you can't take s-video. SCART adapters are fairly cheap and available in most electronic shops (Peats, etc.)

remoteboy, i think that would work as well, but its very expensive - 50 euro from the Apple Store. I'm sure its of excellent quality but can't see anyway a cable can be worth that much.

Thanks, deevey, but I already ordered both already. Sorry to hear about your ibook :(

I ordered from svideo.com. They seem very good; all the customer reviews on yahoo were excellent. And they are recommended by Apple I think.

Thanks for the help folks, I'll let everyone know if it works ok.
