Because O2 have subsidised the cost of a speak easy handset, it is operational only on the O2 network and other networks with which O2 have a roaming agreement. Should you wish to use this handset on an alternative GSM network within the Republic of Ireland, you must have toppedup your account to the value of EUR100 (including the Free Credit provided in your speak easy pack). O2 have certain qualifying criteria which have to be met in order to supply you with an unlocking code for the handset.

Not sure of the protocol for contract phones

If your friend is still a friend, he/she should call O2 and they may give you an unlocking code. Otherwise you will have to get it unlocked using a cable solution which will depend on the software and bootloader versions which can be got by pressing *#9999# or *#`pwr' (three buttons pressed together when phone is switched off) `pwr' is the red on/off switch

Assuming your friend has maintained her account in good standing - maybe she qualified for an upgrade, then she should call O2 and they will give her the unlocking code. They may look for the request in writing.
If the phone has ever been reported lost or stolen it is permanently barred and useful as a paper weight

Im in exactly the same situ - got pink v3 for wife, it was with 02, her sim is with vodafone - but ya man has given us the unblock code - how do I go about entering this in?

Since an incorrect code has been entered 5 times, O2 probably won't be able to do anything for you. You'll need to get the phone unlocked via cable.

Put the Vodafone SIM in it and enter the PIN if it has one, the phone should now say "Enter Subsidy Password." Enter the code exactly as given and press OK. If its correct the phone will work.
If the phone says "Contact service provider" instead then all 5 attempts have been exhausted and you'll need to use cable/clip solution as above.

If you already have the code and 'Contact Service Provider' is displayed on screen, you will have to leave the phone idle and untouched for a certain period of time (maybe hours) and I think it will then revert to 'Enter Subsidy Password'

If however u don't have this password, you would need to bring it somewhere such as your local market to be unlocked directly (ie override the code) - usually while u wait.

From experience, I can tell you that a V3, boot-loader 07.xx and 08.xx can be unlocked without the need to open the phone. Pressing * and # together whilst tipping the power button will provide u with this info. However versions 0A.xx are typically far more difficult

    Hope this helps!

Oh yes, you're right there. If all the attempts haven't been used it will come back after a while. Been ages since I researched these phones!
