Trying to set up Media center on Dell Dimension 9150. I have the Hauppauge WinTV PVR TV tuner card. Installation on MC is very straight forward, picks up all channel guides but it doesnt actually display the picture in Live TV!!

I have installed all updates but still no go! I'm using NTL Analogue. Any ideas as to what the issue is?

do you get an error message?
what channel listings did you select?
do you have the cable connected?
    etc etc etc

more info about how you're tv is set up is required

No errror message displays at all. Basically i have set everything up correctly. The Analogue cable is connected from the NTL point to the Tv Tuner in the back of the PC. I run through the setup and it picks up all the Channels no problem. (20 in total.)

It picks up the NTL point - Ireland - Dublin - NTL Analogue - Then tunes in the actual Media Guide.

The media guide also shows whats on and gives options to record etc. The only issue is the channels are not diplaying an actual picture. Its like i need to tune them in, but as far as i know its automatically tuned in? I have tried it with an ariel and it worked fine.

Have you purchased and downloaded a decoder?

    for instance....
    http://www.nvidia.com/object/dvd_decoder.html

Also, download this decoder checker from Microsoft to ensure the decoder is working correctly..

if he didnt hed get a message saying "please install a decoder"
MCE doesnt pick up anything during install,
you just tell it where you are and what service you ahve and it uses predefined settings for that service.

run through tv setup again and make sure you select the right service.
i havent set up using analog before but it should disply soemthing.
can you test the tv card outside of mce?
try hauppauges software from their website and manually tune in something.

if tht doenst work give dell a ring

Decoder is not the issue, as stated in my last mail i tried with an Ariel and it worked fine. Subway, I have tested the TV tuner card, there doesnt seem to be a issue with it. I think you may be right with Dell Support. I will give them a ring and see if i can get any info from them.

Can you view tv in Hauppauge's own software?

Forgive me if Im getting the wrong end of the stick, but you are aware that Adey was talking about a software mpeg2 decoder for WinMCE?

Its a good idea to download the MS software he linked to and run it.

What do you mean when you say you have tried it with an Aerial? An Aerial connected straight to the back of the tv? This wouldnt rule out the need for decoder software to be loaded to your MCE box.

Tom, how can i do that?

You should have got a CD with the Hauppauge card, which contains TV viewing software. If not, you can download it here.

It is called WinTV 2000 or WinTV 32 (or something like that). Fire either of them up and see if you can watch TV. Then, once you know you can watch TV (and there is therefore no problem with the TV card), you should be able to watch it in MCE.

I'm having the exact same problem on a Dell 5150c, also on NTL Analogue Cable in Dublin - at least I think I am. Sound is working fine, FM radio is working fine, but the picture looks like this:

Is that what you're getting ChickenSnoup?

When I use the tuner with BeyondTV I can get a picture (albeit a rather distorted pink and green one)
