so the story is basically that my 300gb sata hd all of a sudden decided to turn
itself into RAW so i cant access it anymore.
tried a few progs like easeus data recovery, get data back software and another recovery software.
they all have some problems because when searching for the partition on that hd they get jammed and they wont respond.
i remember once a friend showed me how to recover files from a damaged hd using a prog which i dont remember the name of but it seems quite powerful.
i remember that it had to be booted from the cd.

does anyone know about anything similar?

or any other prog which can do the job?

    thanks

Not sure if this can be done, but don't see why not- any chance you can slave that drive into another machine then convert the file system to eithe FAT32 or NTFS? It depends on your OS. Should then be accessible to Windows and you could at least retrieve your data.

im not so sure of what u mean.
i have xp but not on this hd . this one was only used for storage.
unfortunately my other pc doesnt support sata so i cant put it there

If that disk was for storage, was it the second disk in a PC thats booting from a primary SATA disk? Is it a case that XP no longer recognises the disk at all (its not appearing in My Computer) or its there and you can't access any of the folder or files on it (you get an error when you double-click anything).

yes it was a second disk and windows boots from a primary sata disk.
xp shows the hd in my computer but when i double click on it it gives me an error

Sounds like that partition table or whatever it's called is fudged if you can't access the drive at all. (my technical speak is pants as you can see) I don't know how you can reset this other than a quick format which won't actually damage the data and might allow you to use the recovery software to get at those files.

If it's a hardware fault your looking at a £600 bill to get the data off.

ok it seems that there was a way around it.. i unplugged all the cables from the hd , replugged them in . an error while exploring the content of the hd still came up, but it was a different error than the previous one.
Now it doesnt get jammed while analyzing the partition and i can recover the files with recover my files 3.97.
    thanks for ur help guys

just as a side note, if it is not a physical problem with the drive (i.e. not spinning) you can nearly always recover all or some of the data. I saved my friend from formatting a drive that had over 10gigs of family photos he had not backed up because windows was reading the drive as "raw" or unreadable and it needed to be formatted. I use a program that restores the formatting, as long as you knew what it was before (i.e. ntfs, fat32) and then tries to recover all the files. I was able to recover all of my friends photos and files which he gave me €100 for because he thought I had performed some miracle :D

The program I use is "EasyRecovery Pro"
