Hi I had an iPod nano, but it got nicked. I need another MP3 player for the car, commercial radio is doing my head in! Can anybody suggest an MP3 player (besides the nano) thats compatible with osX?

    Thanx.

Well, close to all flash-based players are compatible with OSX (or any OS, for that matter) with drag-and-drop file management.
Read a few reviews first though ;)

Even if it doesn't quote osx in the system requirements? What about creative or iRiver?

Iriver will require you to install an extra little bit of software...talk to me if you do, I can help you with a few things.

No. iRiver is flash-drive based, so it doesn't need any software.

That depends on the model, some are flash some are HD. Where do you get your information? Also flash based does not mean that it supports so-called drag and drop. It depends on the firmware setup. Creative players being a prime example, flash based players with a custom firmware that can only be interfaced with specific software.

On another post you said that the only way to install bootcamp was to delete your existing setup and repartition!

anyway, on the subject of iriver

At the OP, if you were happy with the nano, why not get another?

To be honest the nano is a great little player. It has a few drwabacks though. Not being able to play .wmf, no line in, no voice recorder, no radio, no video playback. At the end of the day all I want is an MP3 player, but it would be nice to a few extras. Both the iRiver and Creative products around the €200 mark have all of these functions as standard.

In comparison I think the nano is a great little product, but at €210 it's over-priced.

ah, I see. iRiver sounds like a plan. Have a look at what particular model appeals to you.

You didnt have an E30 3 Series stolen a while back by any chance?

Nah... Just broke into my car & got a nano & some crappy tools I bought in Aldi. I had a great playlist on the nano. That's the only thing I'm pissed off about.

Do you reckon the iRiver will work with osx?

Some will, some wont without messing around AFAIR. Have a google on the models you like and see what comes up.

I have a Zen Xtra, and used to have an older model and both work fine on Mac. you can get software for it for mac (XNJB) and you can get an iTunes plug in too

Try the iPod video... I have it and I love it! You can buy a cassett thingy from apple [dot] com and plug it in to an older car so you can listen to it through speakers... You might be able to get a similar version in CD for newer cars!

    iPod video is great... :D
