Do I need to enter bios after I install, uninstall old drive first, please help. Dell 8400, new drive NEC dvdrw, 2nd drive also dvdrw, which incidently wont read roms but can still be written to!!!

Any brand of DVD ROM (or DVDRW) drive will do just fine. You shouldn't have to enter any details into the BIOS or anywhere else. Out the old and in with the new one, simple enough. :) Is your computer under warranty?

nope all you need to do is do the physical stuff like remove old drive and replace with the new one.

make sure though the jumper on the back of the drive you are installing is set to master.

Thanks for repling, it's aload off my mind. No it's not under warranty, they got screwed up by what I've been told by "Starforce" . A copy protection system built into some games. The 2 drives f**ked up together, which leads me to think this is the case:mad:

Well that's odd. It might be a bios/mb problem. If so I wouldn't sweat it as you can always get a replacement PCI HD controller.

I'd test the drives on another PC before buying new ones.
