Can't get my new headset to work

I just bought a Plantronics gaming headset from Dixons the other day. Cost 30 euro.

I got home, in the hopes to use this while playing a number of online games, allowing me to shout at the French players who keep saying 'eh lol' during CS.

Anyways, I was happy to see that the Earphones worked, but the Mic part of it didnt.
I brought it over to my friends house where it worked fine, so I know that there is nothing wrong with the mic itself.
I wonder is there something I have to install, or simply a setting I have to change.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Make sure the volume is turned up and all the basic stuff.

Yeah, the sounds options are always a good place to start.

I haven't seen anything that closely resembled an 'unmute mic' option.
Yeah, I dunno, the volume is up, just no sound is being recieved from the mic.

okay sorry that was very vague.

Right see down the bottom right corner. there is a speaker icon. double click that.click options. advanced options. now that should open up all your sound properties. you should see line in, line out, ect ect. There should be mic in there. and below it is a box to click that says mute. if its ticked untick it.

    et viola !

also might be worth having a look in device manager too see if there are any conflicts there. Also are you connecting using the onboard sound on your motherboard. or using a stand alone sound card ?

    Hi Crazyhorse,
Dont feel you are alone with this problem. I have the very same problem, google it and you will find there are many more. Anyway I was told that the solution is to get a seperate sound card as the problem is 2 applications looking at the 1 resource. I still have not got the solution. I have tried all the settings to no avail.
