I was on last week askin wer to get 1gbs of RAM. I got it in the post today and it worked fine for a few hours. Then my computer started sayin that it cudnt find this file & cudnt open this program. Then all programs stopped working. After hours of messing about & turnin it on & off it just seem to get worse so I took out the RAM and the computer worked fine like notin had happened.

So I am right in sayin its the RAM what is proplem?

Can I get a refund in Money?

Depends, what are your specs? Cpu, motherboard etc? And what configuration did you have the ram in? What ram in what slots etc?

    Is this the info?

    intel pentium 4 cpu 3.00ghz 2.99ghz, 512mb of RAM

    in short no.

That is part of the specs. what we need is

Motherboard make and model. make and speed of ram. and siz per dimm. and what dimm is in what slot ?

But ya sounds like the ram is dodgy. or you have ordered the wrong ram.

    From http://memory.neon-drive.com/s4m.php?model_num=17&oemid=DEL&thisman=DELL
    Description
1GB MEMORY MODULE FOR Dimension 4700

    Product code
    TS1GDL5068

    OEM part code
    A0375068

    Manufacturer
    Transcend

    **********

How do I find out motherboard make and model?

"siz per dimm" is that the max connectors?

"dimm is in what slot" Like 1,2,3 or 4? or is it DDR2?

Is it a Dell? Or hp? Whats the model number? If it has a service tag at the back, go to the dell support site to find out the specs.

    Edit:I see its a 4700, max ram is 4gigs.

I need to know the exact size of each stick of ram and what slots you had them in.

If its a Dell Dimension 4700 then it might be hard to find out the motherboard manufacturer as its probably stamped with Dells name on it. What RAM was in your computer before you got the new stuff?

Yeah I opened it up and I saw Dell all over the M.B. Before I did anything in slot 1 I had 256mbs of ram and slot 3 I had 256mbs of ram so that was total of 512Mbs of RAM! Then I added the 1Gb of RAM to slot 2 I think.

Will the 1gb of RAM work on its own? Check it with the old RAM and make sure its the same type (it should have markings on it)

have a read of the manual as regards RAM

Its not the same make! Its has an 'M' as its logo and all I can make out is MTS without turing off the computer.

It prob has a different manufacter. Doesn't mean it won't work. I think the prob is that you're not installing a matched pair, just a single stick.

Try removing the original ram and place new stick in slot 1.

I added ram to my Dell Dimension too.
You should have got 2 512s rather than 1GB.
You cant have an uneven number of RAM modules.
Says it in the user manual.

Yeah I didnt know you could you had to get even amounts!

But I removed both 256Mbs of RAM and but in the 1GB on its own and the same things started to happen!

Where did you buy RAM from?

Well if you're certain RAM is at fault then return it. But run Memtest on it first, see if it throws up any errors. Presumably when you just have original RAM in it works fine?
