This is something anyone can do (first to post in any given day)....between 12 and 1 each day. Pick the three stand out horses that have been punted that day and we'll see how they go.

    Tuesday 15th August

    Connotation, Brighton 15:00 25-1 >>>>>>>>>>>>8-1
    Ariodante, Brighton 16:00 10-1>>>>>>>>>>>6-1
Mind The Style Brighton 14:00 14-1>>>>>>>>6-1

they are hammering connotation, into 5s on pp

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,430 ✭✭✭Sizzler

One out of 3 aint bad.

    Ariodante wins at 13/2

At least you know if you backed all of them you still would have made a profit

    True.

Why do you reckon this happens? I know the how, a price moves in one direction or another based on the money put or layed on him. But why?

I observed a horse last night running in Blainrobe open at 20's, come in to 6/1 sp at 8's and finish nowhere.

Is it the ol' whisper merchants at work here, or are the bookies so cunning as to shorten the price on a long odds, just to attract a punter?

The Pied Piper is usually at work. With these gambles I just had a quick look to see if there were any possible reasons why the horses were being well backed. One of them was earing blinkers for the first time and other times you can just look at a shrewd trainer or owner. Most of the time though a bookie can shorten a price and then people will jump on the banwagon.

The bookie doesn't always shorten the price because there's been a big bet either.

Which is why I'm eager to see the results of this. Similar to the example you have given, I have seen a horse go from 50s into 7s and finish dead last. No all market movers win of course, but seeing as today had 1 from 3 and if you backed every one at even stakes you would be in profit, makes me interested.

This one is very interesting, into 4/1 with PP now. It's only ever had 3 runs in Germany, makes it British debut today.

The trainer is no stranger to pulling off a gamble.

    3 for today:

Firstly, the pricewise horse JOSH (Ripon 3:30). As ususal, the price has come in, but with a few NR's in the race the price has come in even more. Will Hills are getting blasted for this as they are not paying the early prices on the internet or phone, even though people took the price. VC Pushed it from 25's into 9's.

Next comes SALAMANCA - (7:30 Goodwood) most bookies have slashed this one, with Victor Chandler cutting it from 25/1 into 12's

Lastly, HITS ONLY JUDE (2:55 Newmarket) has been cut in most bookies. Biggest move was with Paddypower going from 16/1 into 11's

    JOSH - 3.30 rip. - 25/1 >>>>>>>>>>>>>> 9/1
    SALAMANCA - 7:30 Good. - 25/1 >>>>>>>>>>> 12/1
    HITS ONLY JUDE - 2:55 New. - 16/1 >>>>>>>>>>> 11/1

Son of Thunder won at 13-2 yesterday after being withdrawn when highlighted. Apparently this only works when I pick the horses. :D

    Last!!!!!

Interesting to note that not one favourite came in at Bangor, Ripon or Newbury today. A bit of rain and the form book goes out the window.

    I had a bad day.
