Hi, was just reading in the paper this morning at my tea break that the Govt. are intent oon bringing in a zero tolerance approach to alcohol. Don't get me wrong i'm really anti alcohol abuse and drink driving and i narrowly missed being paralysed in a car accident (not my fault) so i'm aware of the idiots that practise dangerous driving. Not meaning to babble on but my gripe is that being a member of the Church of Ireland and we receive communion under both species. I don't like the idea of receiving bread only as i feel as if i wont be in 'full communion' as a result. I feel like our religious observances are being compromised. I just needed to get this off my chest.

Depends on what zero tolerance means. In Calgary it means they throw the book at you when caught driving over the legal limit, which last time I checked was .08% blood alcohol.

A sip of communion wine won't get you even close to this.

You could probably argue successfully (in a Canadian court anyway) the religious fredom angle.

We hve the same limit here at the moment Brian. But their idea of zero tolerance is nil, like the situation in australia. It contravenes one's human rights. The amount involved would be really, really miniscule.

I don't think a 0.0% level is scientifically enforcable! The amount of blood alcohol resulting from a sip of communion wine in one person could be comparable to the residual blood alcohol in someone else from a few beers three nights ago. I could be wrong about this, as always...

Thats what the minister for the environement stated. didnt think it was feasable, i mean mouthwash has alcohol in. Compromise is something i need to work at in the area of religious tolerance.
