No digital tuner or built in freeview ... what does this mean to a layman?

to me seems a pretty good deal.
the lack of digital tuner shouldnt be really a big problem
i have the 26 " version of this model and i can certainly reccommend it

I have the 32" of this model accept with the built in digital / freeview. Absoloute bargain that is, Also I think this model in perticular is nicer looking then the newer cheaper looking black plastic ones. Very good TV. I nearly paid that price for my 32"

no digital tuners/freeview are not used in ireland at the mo.

The UK does have freeview but i don't think ire is getting it until 2008 at least, no need to worry about it really

Well there isnt any freeview here as of yet, But there is a pilot program being run atm soon basically starting a Freeview service up and in testing. In several years, Ireland just like the US are soon, Will switching off Analogue tv and going digital, But thats probably not for 4-5 years, But hey if you want freeview easily i'd imagine it'll be availible soon enough and regularily enough Within the next year. But Yes it isn't nessecary... Nice feature to have though.

have a look at older threads on Pixmania, there's loads documenting problems...I'd stay away from Pixmania

Beware of pixmania, my advice to anyone trying to purchase from them is to try and talk to someone in customer services before ordering. I have been trying for a number of days now and just keep getting a french voice followed by the line being cut. search Boards.ie or google and make your own decision. It may be cheap but there is a big price to pay if it goes wrong.

There are a number of posts on the web of people who have had a bad experience using Pixmania.

Here is one such example, and there are a number of comments attached to it too. http://pixmaniaproblems.blogspot.com/

I agree with what's been said already about them, was going to buy a camera off them in November advertised at a very competitive price. Before I'd even ordered though I'd lost patience dealing with their customer support on a few simple questions about the product and shipping rates.

Example : what are your shipping rates to Ireland?

Answer (1 week later) : Unfortunately we only deliver within the EU. Thank you for your interest in our products, we hope this answered you question.

Well i have to say i bought a digital camera, along with other digital accessories throughout the year, and didn't have a problem. in fact when they sent the wrong item, they even refunded the postage!

it looks like pixmania are again having issues with credit card fraud..girl i work with just found over €700 used on her card to book a holiday to thailand.
Pixmania were well known for this security before which is why they introduced having to show them a cc statement..looks like the probs are still ongoing..

p.s. girl only uses her card for online shopping and only at pixmania

    Resolution (horizontal x vertical - in pixels) 1366 x 768

Wouldnt that be quite a low resolution for a 40"?

Yeah I've had both good and bad experiences with Pixmania. They're like the Ryanair of online shopping. If you want good value, they're fine, but if you have problems or if anything out of the ordinary occurs, you can end up having a lot of hassle. The only problems I've had is when I had to return a faulty item....3 times! What a nightmare. That said, all other items have been fine.

that is pretty standard. some do go higher but I think few things will output higher, I think it is the standard for HDTV, I think it is higher than dvds output, so the higher res maybe for high end graphics cards.

My 42" panasonic plasma is only 852x480! and looks fantastic, though is poor for using on the PC.

Does anybody know a shop in dublin I can get a look at one of these samsungs?
