Would you take part in a Reality TV show? If so, why so?

..... and if not, why not?

Big brother 7 ends this Friday, and as far as I know X-Faxtor starts this Saturday.
It seems that you can't switch on your telly box without coming accross a reality TV show.

Sometimes I think, yeah, I could do that, make a quick buck and then scurry off back to normality - but I realise it doesn't work like that.

    So would you do it?

EDIT - This thread was actually inspired by the 'concept of hell' thread, as I am aware that for some of you, taking part, or even watching a reality TV show is your concept of hell :D

    I would.
In an ironic gesture that would ulltimately fail and leave me with 15 minutes of being a nation laughingstock.
Then I would go back to college and work and quietly live out the rest of my life as a D-grade "celeb"
    :(

BTW, are you a returing poster? 26 posts, a few weeks in and you have a sub? kudos :)

Pighead would do it but not in this country. Maybe the dutch Big Brother or something like that. I wouldn't want my mother to see me banging all the good looking chicks in the house.

    To summarise:
    Yes I would do it.
But not on a TV show that aired in this country.

Moved. I would take part in one, I'd be the quiet one until the end and then stab someone in the back.:) On there would have to be a nice cash price involved.

Nothing like BB, no. I've never watched more than 5 mins of it but it looks absolutely pathetic. Plus I'm pretty private.
I was toying with the idea of doing youreastar though... for a minute XD

I was seriously considering it, cos I like the idea of making about 100k in 6 months or so, for doing very little actual work.
If you managed to win Big Brother, you walk away with about €130k beofore you do any of the magazine and interview stuff.
Even if you don't win, and you play it smart, you could still make a fair bit of cash from it, certainly enough to give you a fairly decent house deposit.

If I could actually sing I would definitely go for X-Factor, because it is posisble to make a more long term credible career for youself, whilst picking up a few quid along the way.

The thing with BB is you could become the most loved person or the most hated. :) Alot of the time its the most hated.

Yeah, thats very true, and I don't think it is as simple as 'take the money and run'.
It would probabaly be kinda tricky to just fade back inot normal life with your winnings.

my life is boring enough without subjecting the general populous to it

No chance. I'd be arrested for killing everyone else in the house on live TV.

    Have you seen the ratings?
    No one is watching BB.
You would probably get away with it.

If you could put up with "ah not that cúnt Mrs_Doyle again!" and the drive by eggings at your house, then you'd be ok. :)

I would consider it if I was young, free and single.
Hopefully make a few bob and then go back to my mundane life.

At the moment I'd say 60% of me would want to.. purely for the money cos I am dreading the thought of having to 'save' for anything - I'm all about the quick fix :D

The other 40% would be the nagging feeling that some ****ebag will try blacken your name for their own gain. This only seems to happen to these Reality Celebs - obviously as they are in the spotlight for a few precious minutes.

Real celebs (if they can be called that) ie. radio hosts, tv hosts etc don't seem to be plagued by the dirtbag stories as they have generally been around for a while and most probably will be around for a while longer. I'd rather be a real celeb.. but then again I couldn't be arsed working towards 'real celeb-dom'.

I am my own downfall :D

I'd do it if there was some sociological or scientific slant to it (eg even that "stay awake for a week" show (Shattered?) appealed to me more than BB a participation pov).

BB appeals to me from the pov of "people trapped in a cage for an extended period and how they react" but what makes me sick of the show is the increasing theatricality of it (both from the participants and BB). TBH I'd walk straight out of the BB house the very instance they tried putting me on a silly costume or do a silly dance for them.

Not if my life depended on it. I am a very private person and if you think the Imogen sex tape is bad, what ex is out there with a pin-hole camera in his bedroom waiting for the day when I can afford the black-mail.

No never, I wouldn't even stop to give my opinion on the street with a camera in my face.

Only on one condition: if I fell ill and was going to die soon, then I could save the world by exploding (imploding? omgsploding?) the Big Brother house or whatever it was on live television, with C4 strapped around my chest, thus associating it with terrorism and banning throughout the Universe, saving humanity from almost certain peril.

I will be your martyr... but only if I'm like, dying and stuff! :p

With the likes of Big Brother you also run the risk of becoming the most hated person in the country, Just take a look at Makosi or Grace from Big Brother.

Also your family history will get dragged through the press while you were in the house and as you wouldn't know about it, there would be nothing you could do.

Mary (BB6) ended up sleeping rough for a while after she was evicted from the Big Brother house, so I don't know where you get the idea that you are guaranteed loads of money.

Also how would you like people seeing you with your hair all over the place after you've just fallen out of bed, with no make-up on.

Personally I wouldn't do it because my life story is best kept out of the papers.

By the way you would have to be in the house a good few weeks to make 2-3K as you only get €45 a day.

Never, unless as pighead said, if it was only aired in a different country. It would be fun to go there and be recognised and all, but i coudnt stand it all day every day. And the higher chance of being hated :)

Yeah being in BB would be amazing. Can Irish people apply or do you have to be living in the UK?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,811 ✭✭✭✭billy the squid

They hold auditions in Dublin and there was an Irish contestant this year - Spiral. Orlaith McAlister also auditioned in Dublin last year.

They had auditions in Cork too actually. I'm going for it next Summer but I'd only be able to do it after the LC (I'm repeating) so I'd have to be a new housemate or something.
I'd love to go on America's Next Top Model too if they made a male version just to hunt down Tyra Banks!

Yeah I would take part. I'd say it would be a laugh. Live it up for a little while. And if I won well that would be even better with the money and all that. Sure why not!
