Why boards?

Ok, so seeing as it's my 4000th post I said I'd make an attempt to make sure it's not a complete waste. This might have been done before, infact I'm fairly sure it has been done before but I'm doing it again. Booyah.

So, how did you come about boards? Did a mate tell you about it? Did you find it from a web search? Did the admins kidnap you and say they'd steal your first born if you didn't use it?

For me, I was sitting in college and saw someone next to me on a site called boards.ie so I said I'd check it out... and I've been hooked ever since. :)

    Hah, who was it?
Also, it has been done to death. :P

A mod called NeoslicerZ suggested I join as he said the board needed somebody like me. :)
I joined for the cs forum and branched out.

I had a few friends who were big into it and I could never understand why they would bother to spend their time posting on an internet forum. Turns out it's quite addictive!

Also,I really wanted to get opinions on a certain topic but it didn't go down too well....:o

I think for me it was seeing someone at college with boards open in the browser, too. Took a long time for me to warm to boards and for certain long periods still I prefer avoiding the place. (Some people fit in well here, others don't. I'd like to think there's a good cross-section every type of person, but there ain't always).

Anyway, yeah, random net browsing at college brought me here. I'd nothing better to do than stick around.

Was searching for a book and this was one of the results.

    hmm.

anyway, it was a web search for me.
i was looking for an Irish wrestling discussion forum and this was the first one that came up. then i came back a year or so later, had a look around the rest of the place and decided to stay.

The TCD boards were created, and a user who was then called Triceradon told me about it. From there I got hooked.

    Hah, who was it?
You know, I can't even remember his boards name - but I do know his real name. He's a dead on chap, was a year below me in college.
Also, it has been done to death. :P
I know, but the way I see it is that there is a big influx of new users who didn't post in the previous threads, and with a beers just around the corner it may help for them to get a feel for the other users on here.

I came to boards when the ICDG Forums moved from EZboards and were hosted by boards.ie

My, that was a while ago now. :)

It's amazing how boards.ie has expanded so much over the years.

Is being from the states and wanting to visit a bad thing?

Someone I was stalking signed up for an account so I did what any good stalker would do ... I hacked their account and now use it as my own, spending my days impersonating them on the internet.

The brother was always on here on the music forums. I just thought it was just some dance music site because that’s all he ever posted in but I was in a hurry to use the comp one day and told him to get the fuck off his little dance website and it was then he informed me of the rest of the forums. I still picked him up out of the chair and told him to fuck off but it was then that I actually had a proper look around boards.ie. Now it’s him who moans at me to get off my stupid forums so he can use the computer. He's trying to get me off the computer right now as I type but I like waiting untill his eyes are popping out of his head with rage before I let him near it :)

My cousin* uses it but we never let on to users that we are anyway connected, so I suppose he got me hooked.

I joined because Phantom FM uses Boards for its message board (it's in the hosted category). That's how I originally joined - just to post to Phantom FM's message board - but then I found all the other forums and you lovely guys :).
Now you're like a family to me /me blows kisses to you all. ;)

I think the OP should be banned for blatant disregard for an old rule ;)
It is gone of the front page, but the fear that Monty gave posters should remain :D

Gandalf is a '98 user. Pretty much part of the furniture.

Posters from '98 started off with 1,000 posts to offset the newbie remarks from later posters ;)

I 1st found boards.ie when someone on another forum had boards.ie as their sig that was back in 2002 but I only had like 4/5 posts. Then I rejoined to in 2005 to get help with fixing my computer I think.

I stumbled across this forum on Google one day.
One of the liner tags for that days was a posting in the Personals Forum titled "How To Ask her Out".

Well, I started reading and got so caught up in it, I had to come back each day just to see the outcome! Such a romantic story!

Then, I started browsing the rest of the site and was completely hooked! I stopped lurking and signed up. Been here most every day since! I am a total addict!
