How much did you pay for this laptop? Did you get a warranty with it?

These issues could be software related and/or your fault. However, I wouldn't mind blowing something up. My iGO craptop burns my legs now. In fairness, it is a few years old, was great spec. and good looking in its day, and has been dropped and hopped once or twice. Still, blowing stuff up is always welcome.
    Ruu: Hush.
OP: Please, continue. Don't let common sense, or anything productive get in the way of your rant.

Ooooooh, if we are blowing up laptops, can I add my 2 year old HP? It's died yet again today, piece of crap that it is.

What's that song about building a bonfire? And we can then all dance naked around it.

    Do.
I got the same thing but didnt get their "extended warranty" (Which btw is a scam),....
They send your laptop off to be repaired, if its not returned to you working 100% in 28 days, tell them sternly you are "envoking the 28 day rule."

(Mine was left sitting in their "workshop" (which is in the UK btw), while they "waited for parts" (all of which I could have found online in one day).
The 28 day rule is your best weapon with the dixons group (which is dixons, currys and pcWorld, all the same company),..Its buried in their paperwork, basically they promise that if they cannot fix it within 28 days you get a new laptop.

Happened to me with an Advent I bought, started cracking etc after 11 months, sent it back, made an angry phone call each week, waited a month, got a whole new Compaq, this years technology, last years price! :D

    b

(The key is be VERY strict with them on the phone, make VERY sure they think that you are 1000% sure of your rights and have no problem taking it further if neccesary) ;)

Remember though the Dixons group is based in the UK and they used that against me (said on one of the receipts that you get a new PC if the item wasn't repaired in 28 days). They claimed that was in the UK only (when I was in Blanchardstown). Sorted it out in the end and got €100 store credit.

FYI Ruu: All you need to do to get a Dell to explode is plug it in and stand back!!! ;)

Pure cack about it only applying in the UK btw, just do as FranknFurter says and be very strict. Take no excuses and take everyones name that you speak to and ask who the manager on duty is and note the time/date too.

Ive gotten rid of these things many times, ive found that a 7lb club hammer is the best and builders love them as hardcore filling for house foundations.
The 14lb sledge hammer uses too much of your energy and is a devil to pick all the pieces up after.

I have some old laptops and printers to dispose of. Anyone know where/how to legally dump them? Is there a cost (prob a silly question) and how much?

    Ta,

    Eoin.
