Snooping on Internet after history cleared

Is there any way to double check the websites etc visited using my PC EVEN after the previous user has done the following
    Cleared History,
    Cleared Cookies
    Cleared the Search Engine history
Deleted all internet files in Temporary Internet Files

I don't want to load any software on to the PC to do this if possible, I was just wondering if there was some recovery tool or some way to view this info in a RECENT folder etc.

    Thanks

The only way I can think of is if you use some sort of uneraser to get the deleted files back. DiskInternals Uneraser maybe.

Some firewalls store the information in its history.

It's just a stand alone PC. How about the index.dat file. Does that store all the websites visited even when HISTORY is cleared?

Could anything have been deleted from index.dat?

Our children are using the internet and they have progressed in their grasp of the internet very rapidly. I don't want to load software that will make them think I am snooping, but I do want to snoop a little, especially when I come to use the PC and the history is cleared.

You can go to internet explorer , tools options content, content adviser, set slider to high level, no nudity, swearing, put in your own password, enable, put in password eg,say ghi764,mixture nos, letters that cannot be guessed, also download free child protection filter software.I think theres 1 called naomi.Or buy program in dixons.just search html in winxp to find old pages anywhere on pc.install spybot sd free download,it keeeps record of all cookies etc, most dodgy sites leave small txt files, cookies on your pc.Google search free parental filter software.I think theres a host file on pc too.Search download.com pc tattletale Parental Control program, monitors records, all website, keystrokes, video file ,email passwords, basically watches any prog that acess,s any internet site inbound or outband to your pc.Works on ie or firefox browsers.

I understand you not wanting to make them think you're looking over their shoulder's but tbh on this day and age you cannot go too far to protect them online. The knowledge that you are keeping an eye on things will serve as a deterrant, yes it might bruise your relationship with them for a while but then as you well know that often has to happen in order to keep them safe. Have a look at this one, www.k9webprotection.com , it's free and has a cute kid-friendly warning system (barking dog :) ). The only real problem is it cannot be enabled on a user by user basis, but you do have an override password. I installed this for my brother recently as my niece is starting down the internet road too, he's not a techy by any means but it's working well so far.

Thanks for all the feedback. I shall have to let them know that I am watching and that they are not allowed to clear cookies or delete history etc.

download free tattletale prog monitoring program,,free trial, any1 under 16 should not be allowed acess to net ,without net filter installed, set internet explorer content ,to high/safe level, put in a 7letters/nos,password,ENABLE content advisor.dont allow any other browser to be installed.download free firewall zonealarm install it ,set high protection.set google to safe settings,no nudity.you can set say 200 sites, allow acess in ie, content advisor, cos it may block out safe sites sometimes .

Tesco is selling an net nanny type program at the moment. You could give it a go.
Do not bother with the built in internet explorer one.. it blocks everything pretty much.

    What age are the children?

Maybe just let them go wild... Chances are in a few months they'll be well beyond your pc-level and will be able to back-door any program you pop up. Plus they'll know you're on the prowl so will be more careful.

Just live and let live. I wouldn't go snooping. Warn them occasionally. Threathen them with severe punishments if you find anything. And walk into the room often enough to stop them getting involved in any sordid communications.

If they're clearing the history they're looking at porn, plain and simple.

That's the only reason I ever cleared history when I was younger.

It's unlikely that they're clearing it because they want to read the indo's website but dad reads the times and would be ashamed >:O
