groundcover plants

I'm currently finishing off landscaping my site (1 1/2 acres). I've put down a lot of lawn seed and the grass has come up pretty well over the last month. I've got another large area (30m by 10m) which I don't want to be lawn and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on fast-growing groundcover plants? The soil is peaty, well-draining, south-facing and the site is very exposed. I'm putting up windbreaks to give some break from the wind and have planted escalonias to give some extra cover. Thanks.
