Cullen publishes Report of Public Inquiry on Proposed Luas Extension to The Point Depot
    6 August 2006

Today (Sunday, 6 August 2006), Transport Minister, Martin Cullen, T.D., announced that he has published the Report of the Public Inquiry held under the Transport (Railway Infrastructure) Act, 2001 on the proposed extension of the Luas Red Line (Tallaght to Connolly) to The Point Depot. This follows an application made for the extension to The Point by the RPA to Minister Cullen in December 2005.

The proposed extension, which will have four stops, is approximately 1.5km in length. The Report of the Public Inquiry covers issues ranging from submissions made by the public, interest groups, and businesses, to EIS matters.

The main report can be accessed on the Department's website at: http://www.transport.ie/viewitem.asp?id=7839&lang=ENG&loc=845. Copies of the full report, including appendices, are available for purchase from the Government Publications Sale Office.

Minister Cullen is now considering the relevant documentation, including the Report which was prepared and submitted to him by the independent Inspector, James Connolly, S.C.

Currently, some 36,000 people use the Luas Red Line on a daily basis while the weekly average number of users is ¼ million.
