I'm new to this whole thing so can somebody please help with this.

I would like to be able to rip a cd to my computer, then put it on my iPod, and then take it off the computer in order to not waste the space on my machine.

But after I erased all the music from my iTunes, I found the computer erasing all the music from my iPod the next time I tried to make a transfer.

    Is this normal?
    I hope there's a way around it.

    Youre in look :D

There is. Plug in your iPod, and go to your settings. To do this, click on your iPod in iTunes and click the settings button, located four buttons in in the bottom right corner.

Then hit iPod out of the list across the top, and go to Manage iPod Manually.

Now when you update your library songs do not transfer automatically, if you wish to put on more songs, simply click on them, and drag them to the iPod (Where it says Name's iPod)

. . but beware ! If anything happens to your ipod, you've lost your music . . I had 30GB worth of music on mine when the unit froze up and it ended up going back to Apple. They replaced it quickly enough but I lost everything. I would advise keeping a back-up of all your tunes on your PC . .

Hell no. That's a ridiculous waste of space on the computer, I'm happy with the speed that it runs at now.

If anything happens to the iPod I'll just retrieve my cds again.
