    Hi,

Headin to Hong Kong in October to visit friends but have to spend our first night in a Hotel. Can anyone recommend one that's within a fair distance of the main rail network out of Hong Kong to mainland China but still allows us good access to the nicer parts of the city?

Price riange would be around €100/HK$1000 but would be willing to go higher for a decent enough place. Would want a fairly decent spot to relax in after such a long flight.

As always - all suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

Since the East Tsim Sha Tsui station opened, it's pretty easy to get to the China train terminus at Hung Hom from anywhere on the underground (MTR) network, connecting between MTR and railway by walking underground from Tsim Sha Tsui station to East TST.

Still, for maximum convenience, I suggest staying in Tsim Sha Tsui. Lots of decent hotels around there. I used to get good rates at The Kowloon Hotel, though the rooms were small. Rooms were bigger at the Marco Polo Gateway and Marco Polo Prince, but they were a bit faded (probably renovated by now).

You would get the best rate by asking your friends to book on your behalf through a local travel agent. I've never been able to get close to these rates on the internet.

I stayed at the Eaton hotel on Nathan Road in Kowloon last year. Very nice place and well located.

Thanks for the suggestions. The Eaton Hotel looks the job - nicely priced and looks comfortable. Is that area handy to see the "sights" in hong kong. We'll have one full day in the city before we head into China - we're heading to bagkok afterwards so we'll not be wanting to go shopping - just want to get a feel for the city.

Probably deserves a seperate thread but what kinda stuff should we be looking to see/do if anything? I know its just a massive modern city but there must be a few things worth seeing/doing?

Gonna change the title from hotel in Hong Kong to Hong Kong..
