What should you eat/drink before/during your workout? I have recently started a new gym program, and I have felt slightly dizzy and weak towards the end of my workout. By the time I get home I am dizzy, weak and nauseous. Anyone got any ideas?

I understand that people have questions, but i suggest you read the stickies, check your diet and excercise routine in the face of the advice offered there and then come back with any other questions you might have. ;)

So post your full daily diet and any variances between off days and workout days.

It would seem to me that you are not eating anything at all after the gym on your workout days....and this is a mistake.

You have damaged your muscles, used up glycogen stores, ATP stores and muscle glutamine.

You need to eat something after your workout , as your body is crying out for food at this point!!!!

Have a small amount of fast digesting carbs and a lean protein source and you should feel a lot better!

Thanks Dragan. Are drinks like lucozade a good source of fast acting carbs?

Yes and no....they are not very economic.....i would suggest you go with something like Liga, you know the baby biscuit?

I eat this after workouts and it's nice to get that bit of wholefood in, ya know? :D

i was told not to eat an hour and a half prior to work out and then again after as your body is still working out. Actually come to think of it, it came form someone who is on a workout and eating plan that i do not agree with.

Is there any sense to this thought?

No , they are talking out there ass. "your body is still working out"....what the ****????

Some people will have some stomach discomfort if they eat close enough to a workout....i eat my last meal before a workout an hour before i hit the weight room floor....it's consists of Whey and fruit....thought i have had chicken/steak and rice 30 mins before a workout and not suffered any from it.

Straight after a workout you want to get your food in, protein and simple carbs....your body needs to be fed as soon as possible to replaced lost amino acids and glycogen and to begin the process of recovery.

Who has your friend doing that is a jackass.
