Hey. If any of you know about YouTube which is a newish website where people make home-made movies about different stuff or upload documentaries, etc. Anyway, whilst on it, I found some really good movies about gay marriage, equality, etc. which may be of some interest to you. So voila:

HOMOPHOBIA is "gay" This is a good one as it shows the whole folly of homophobia.

    No More Homophobia

Homophobia is Gay This one was really quite touching.

Gay Marriage This one shows the contrast between homophobes and LGBTs.

Homophobia This was a truly touching one.

These are just a few I've selected. There are many more out there so feel free to post one you like.

I hope you like. Good luck! ;)

While also further weakening the word gay and using it like some kind of juvenile insult?

Forgot to add that you probably disappointed a lot of people with the title of the thread and the actual content of the videos.

Well Damian, that's a judgement, not a fact. Perhaps some people did enjoy them. Speak for yourself, not for others. Besides, what was I supposed to call the flipping thread???

Don't complain to me about it. That's what the video is called. Sure gay people call themselves queer, ****, etc. which is an insult to themselves. On the other hand, I do agree that it does weaken the word and from a grammatical point of view, that could be translated also as "Homophobia is happy".

Don't complain about the actual content if you can't provide me with any suggestions of what you would of liked to see in the videos.

I think you'll find people would be insulted that being called queer is insulting.

from a grammatical point of view, that could be translated also as "Homophobia is happy".

So it's either associating a happy word with homophobia or is using the word gay to make homophobia a negative thing?
Don't complain about the actual content

What will I complain about then if I can't? :)

Then why is LGBT sometimes called LGBTQ? Q = Queer. Many LGBTs on the gay scene at least use queer quite often as an umbrella word for LGBT. I find the word "queer" very insulting as it almost implies that I'm strange or different because of my sexuality. That is the actual definition of queer: odd, strange. The fact that many LGBTs view themselves as strange is worrying indeed!

I'd go with the latter considering homophobia is a very negative thing. You seem to imply otherwise?

I said: Don't complain about the actual content IF you can't provide me with any suggestions of what you would of liked to see in the videos. I didn't say you can't complain, but it's pointless to complain about something if you can't give any suggestions!

Could they not have just used Q then? Seems rather redundant to use 4 letters when one would do, or would it piss off too many Star Trek fans? Fiar enough Q was one of the best characters in the Next Generation but do the (to use your word) flipping Star Trek fans have to go and ruin it all for us LGBTQSWers? I ask ya!
I find the word "queer" very insulting as it almost implies that I'm strange or different because of my sexuality.
Ahh right, but you're not, it's just the gayness that's strange? I get ya.

but it's pointless to complain about something if you can't give any suggestions!

But I can't complain, as you said before. If I could I'd give suggestions. This circle of yours is very viscous.

Another movie - Sugar baby love.
A guy discover his sexuality in this French campaign for AIDS awareness. Another fine work from Wilfred Brimo, who also directed the 2005 campaign.

    I really like these 2

(you have to be registered as they are "adult" content)

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Uh, you are queer. You are strange. The vast majority of people are heterosexual, so by defintion anyone not straight is queer.

I think you're insulted because you somehow think that being different to the majority is a bad thing, which it isn't. Queer queer queer. I'd be terribly upset if someone thought I was like everyone else... :D

In that case I wouldn't look down. *Sigh*, I told you not to look down. Yes, those are your feet. You have two of them. Just like everyone else. ;)

No I am different but I am not strange. Why don't we go on and call disabled queer, or Black people queer? By your definition, everyone who isn't white, straight, not disabled is queer. Queer means strange, not different. How am I strange? Because I fancy other fellas? In this day and age, homosexuality isn't considered strange by many people in our society. One sees it everywhere, knows of it, possibly knows somebody who is gay. Is a Black person strange, or an Asian or a Polish? They're everywhere.

I'm just like my fellow heterosexuals. I'm a human being, I fall in love, I can get my heart broken and I work and too contribute to society. There is only ONE thing that is different, that is my sexual orientation. So according to you, I should create an identity of myself based on my gayness, I should be seen as "Mr. Gay" then, "Mr. Queer", "Mr. Strange"? I am nothing more than my sexuality, is that it? I'm not insulted because I "somehow think that being different to the majority is a bad thing" according to yourself. I am insulted by being seen as "queer" which doesn't mean different, it means strange, weird.

Whoah whoah whoah. I said nothing about anything other than sexuality. Disabled people are "queer" in a way, but because the way in which they are different genuinely is a bad thing its not nice to remind them with such a title.

If I was in as African country I wouldn't mind be called "queer" for being white in a black country, anymore than I mind being called queer in a straight world. Weirdness is subjective, it just so happens that the majority of people everywhere are straight, hence being gay is inherently queer/different/strange.

Nope, not at all. I don't mind being called white, that doesn't mean I think I should be soley identified as MrWhite. I don't mind being called Bisexual, but that doesn't mean I should be Mr.Bisexual. And just because I don't think you should be offended by being called queer doesn't mean I think you should be called MrQueer, anymore than a straight girl should be MrsStraight. Its just another label, one I don't see the problem with. You'll accept some labels, "homosexual" for example, that doesn't mean you're MrHomosexual.

This whole 'queer' thing is just so 1992!

As for the gay/lame situation; words change their meanings, sometimes over many generations, sometimes overnight. Simple as. There are still ppl out there upset that gay was 'hijacked' for bent (my current fave!)

Just let it go man. There's far more important stuff going on! :)
