Reading review on Eurogamer, hes confusing me with his ingame courts.
i just got a DS for me and my girlfriend yesterday and was wondering if this would this game be any good to play multiplayer ?
you have your town and you can pretty much do whatever? like sims etc ?
how does one interact with the other, like what can they do together etc?

The game is very hard to explain since it's different from everything else. I suppose a game like the sims is probably the closest thing to it. As a single player game you will either love it or hate it but since you have someone else to play multiplayer with I would highly recommend it since in multiplayer the experience is infinitely better and one of the best gaming experiences ever. The multiplayer side of the game is nothing more than wandering around your friends town while doing annoying things like stealing from them, chopping down their trees and leaving silly messages. It doesn't sound like fun and it really shouldn't be but it is, again it's a hard game to explain. I haven't played it nearly enough. Perhaps the AC addicts on this forum could explain it better.

I've wondered exactly what the story is with this game too - is it nintendogs but with loads of animals or is there like a quest and objectives or like the OP suggested is it just a sim type game? I is confussed...

there are objectives in the game but not compulsory; people can have just as much fun with the game even if they don't bother with the objectives (like catching all the different types of fish, insect and fossil, upgrading your house until it's as big as possible, getting your house as stylish as possible etc.).

It's kind of like the sims but not really; you just wander around your town, talk to the other people living there and sometimes do things... often your neighbours will ask you to do them a favour, or there'd be a town competition on like who can catch the biggest fish.

    Bizarre fun IMO
As Retro said it's stuff that doesn't sound fun and probably shouldn't be fun, but it is. My favourite thing is when locals ask you to come up with a catchphrase for them; I have cute giraffe's and cats going around saying some pretty ludicrous and obscene things :D

Animal crossing on the cube was one of the most engrossing game's i've ever played, it's a much better single player game than the DS verion. The AI is hilarious, "goose" is one of my favourite characters of all time even though he was just another relatively randomly generated AI inside a chickens body, who I would kick a ball with. There was lots to do, catch all the bugs and fish, find all the paintings and fossils, or I could just run around hitting people on the head with my net and making a t shirt with a penis facing in a different direction from the last time.

Animal crossing on the DS has for me, been a great way to keep up with a few real world friends....Sure the typing of chat isn't even slightly intuitive(they really should have done something like what's in beyond good and evil for that) but seeing my friends trample my flowers with humorous intent, or send me a fan during the hot weather(thanks judesherry) makes it more than worth the while for me. In fact the only multi player games I've liked more than this are the endless forest and Enemy Territory.

As a single player game, I can't recommend the DS version at all, as a multi player game, I can't recommend it enough. It's immense fun, it doesn't put any pressure on you at all, it's not too intrusive(though you will feel rather pissed off to see weeds in your town after 2 weeks away), it's hugely charming too. I love it on the DS, I loved it more on the Cube, great game overall but you don't really do all that much....Did I mention I love this game?

It's exactly as described above, which might make it sound crap, but when you play online its good crack, you can have upto 3 friends visit your town, to play, swap items, and have a nosey around.

can you chat with each other ingame multiplayer like?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,987 ✭✭✭✭zAbbo

Yes you can chat, but its handier to use a chatroom if there are 3-4, like on wiffy.ie

Can you place this over the internet or just the short-range wireless?

The game supports both online and wireless gameplay.
