    You're watching what now?

Banlieue13 (?) has an excellent chase scene.

The best car chase scenes are in the film called "RONIN". They`re class, real normal road cars not like feckin ferrari`s/lambourgini crap.
Anyway, theres a couple of scenes with chases, involving a Bmw, a class Peugeot 406 and an Audi A6. 1 chase is through little narrow streets and the whole scene is just class. I bought the Dvd just for the chases but the actual film is class itself, its about the IRA sort of.

    Anyone know it?

    The Italian Job (original)
    Gone in 60 Seconds
    Smokey and the Bandit
    Ronin

I have to say, I find myself in agreement with Father Ted, there...

    Italian Job (Original)
    Ronin
Smokey and the Bandit (One big long 1:30minute car chase!)
The Blues Brothers. "You want out of this parking lot? OK..."
    Bourne Identity.

I'm not actually so amazingly keen on Bullit. Though it is a nice car...

I was in a car chase once.. I was chasing an Opel Kadett... in my tank. I think he was very surprised at how fast I could go...

    NTM

The Blue Brothers from the point where Elwood says "It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses" until the Daley Plaza.

Held the record of the most cars crashed in a movie until the appalling sequel.

    FTW.

Blues Brothers and French Connection (Popeye Doyle). Who wants an angry 'Hackman' after ye in full sprint. Leg it!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,216 ✭✭✭✭monkeyfudge

Yep it would have to be the Blues Brothers for me too.

Jackie Chan's Armour of God had some great scenes in it too....

Don't forget The French Connection, the original Gone in 60 Seconds from the 70's, and i agree with Ronin and The Bourne Identity

what's that bond film where he's in paris and his car gets cut in half and he drives the front half down some steps and stuff?
or the one where he drive onto train tracks and chases a train?

    Blues Brothers.

No doubt about it. All the way to the SWAT Team at the end..

HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT :D

Blues Brothers has to be No 1 for me. RONIN was a close second. The AUDI was an S8 quattro. I actually bought a second hand one after seeing the movie. Best car ever IMO!!!

    Surprised Duel hasnt been mentioned.
Ok, not really a chase... but a whole film where an evil trucker (never actually see his face) is hunting down and scaring the bejaysus out of businessmans little car.
T'was Spielbergs first big film too.
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0067023/

    Great flick

I think it was one of the Timothy Dalton ones. I think Roger Moore was in one that was partly in Paris (the one that ends with the brilliant climax on the Golden Gate bridge) but I dont think this is the same one. Mind you, that Moore one has pretty good chase involving a fire truck.

Not exactly a chase per say, but Speed always has the oul palms sweatin, even though Ive already seen it a half dozen times. Great action film.

the bond one with the speed boats was fairly good too. (nobody said it had to be cars).

It was an Audi S8 not an A6 and racing a Peugeot 406 against a BMW M5 is a bit unrealistic tbh but a great car chase all the same. Another great car chase was in the Bourne Supremacy, better than the Bourne Identity.

For a sci fi fantasy chase scene, I would have to agree with R0ot. But you might also want to check out "Transporter" (the first one), which, of course is fiction too, but appears real (except for the jump onto the back of the car carrier, which was cool but a laugh).:D

I thought the Matrix chase scene was terrible... it was very obvious that the truck was driving really slow.

Best chase scene ever is the South Park episode where Cartman is driving to the Family Guy studios to get them shut down.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,061 ✭✭✭✭Terry

nah. the high speed chase with him and kenny in the battery operated car is better. (cartman's hate crime is the name of the episode i think).

Yeah that's what I was going to mention. There was something very menacing about that truck. Love the fact you never see the drivers face.
That scene in the diner is classic!

I second that. Great chase scene.
Although I think the Peugeot was a 605 instead of the 406?

that's what you noticed? nothing bar the sword in the side of the truck annoys me in that chase sequence tbh...

(sword refers to morpheus sticking a sword in the side of the truck near the top, cut to the next scene and the sword is much lower so morpheus can stand on it, later on the sword is back at the top)

No, it was a 406 alright, I know my cars.;) I've watched it loads of times. There was a 605 in The Transporter, maybe thats the one you were thinking of.

Hmm. I was sure there was a 605 in Ronin.

Damnit. I'm going to have to watch it again now. :-)

Just checked. I'm confusing the 605's that are part of the convoy. (first car chase, rocket launcher etc) and the actual proper car chase later on in the film where they are indeed driving a 406.

    So both right (kinda) :-)

    Bullitt and Ronin.
Duel was a great film but not sure if I would throw it in the "best car chase" category. It was a different kind of film where the whole thing was about a road chase as opposed to an action scene in the other car chase films mentioned.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,942 ✭✭✭wingnut

Not a car chase but Apocalyto has a pretty cool on foot chase scene.

The whole last act of T2, especially the bit where Arnold rides the overturned truck like a surf board :D Greatest chase ever imo.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,921 ✭✭✭✭Pigman II

Probably The Asteroid sequence in Empire Strikes Back.

2nd place would go to Bullitt

    3rd would go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxtzR-SWQMk

Ronin - for the locations as much as the car chases - one of my favorite movies.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,575 ✭✭✭junkyard

I loved the locations in Ronin too. The French do the best car chases as far as I'm concerned.......its a pity about their cars though.

Best chase scene ever??Im your opinion??
A few years ago, when a neighbouring lad (17 approx) got caught with his pants down in his girlfriend's living room by her father arriving home early from a weekend away. Cue normally ultra-respectable father chasing him for half a mile waving a 3 ft. long yellow and purple golfing umbrella, and yelling that he was going "to shove it so far up his arse he'd need a dentist". :D
