want to join/start indie/rock/slow-build band in Dublin

Serious, committed Bass player in Dublin city centre looking to join/start a band. I’ve posted ads several times and been disappointed several times with replies I’ve gotten so allow me to be clear, NO time wasters! No covers bands, no wedding bands, and no metal or funk bands! What I want to do is slow-building indie rock with a vein in common with the likes of Mogwai, Pink Floyd etc. Something melodic that builds and builds, louder and louder but maintains its integrity with some good synth/sample work thrown in for good measure. Also influenced by Manic Street Preachers, Suede, Muse, Mercury Rev, Flaming Lips and many more… Vast array of interests but those are the most significant in terms of influencing how I play.

So, what I’m looking for, first and foremost, is people who know what they’re doing, know how to do it and get on with it. Preferences would be culturally conscious individuals with influences beyond the boundaries of music (perhaps a movie you saw or book you read prompted you onto an artistic path?) and a love of making good music just for the sake of giving something back to the industry that has been so kind to us. Ideally, smart stage dress and tightly marshalled performances to maximise the enjoyment of all involved.

Some might say I’m being picky but I want to be clear about what I’m looking for to avoid repeat performances… Looking forward to any replies.
    Take care, all!

Hi I'm a 24 year old singer based in Rathfarnham Dublin.

Was gigging regularly but the group i was with have recently broken up. My influences are pretty varied, off the top of my head...

Pink Floyd, Flaming Lips, Lizzy, Dylan, Travelling Wilburys, Arcade Fire, Sigur Ros, Kings of Leon, Stone Roses, The La's, Zeppelin, Mike Oldfield, Sex Pistols, Chilli's, Radiohead, Nirvana, Manu Chao theres loads more more but i'm in work and am struggling to think straight...

I may have a slightly muddled taste in music but find it keeps me open minded especially with regards to writing and experimenting, I write my own stuff and enjoy working with other peoples lyrics and writing with a group, i've also worked a lot with a group with a lot of electronic influences and have played a lot of trad music so i'm open to any kind of experimentation, but my guitar skills leave a little bit to be desired so that would be my weak point but i can play enough to help me write so it usually does the job...

Anyway, i'm looking for some musically compitent people to make some serious music and hopefully become tight enough to begin gigging regularly again soon...

If you interested respond and we can go from there, if not best of luck!

hey not sure if its your thing but check out www.myspace.com/ogyandneil
    2 guitarists/songwriters in need of bass/drums

approximately similar tastes. Things are just beginning and the stuff we've written is only an indication of where we wan't to go i guess.
    bands/genres i admire are
    - quality pop songwriting like beach boys/beatles/super furry animals/elvis costello/weezer
    - classic bands like neil young/dylan/the band
    - quality 90s guitar music like pavement/sonic youth
    - interesting guitar music like mogwai/shellac/battles
    - quality electronic music like air/aphex twin/jamie lidell/autechre

i guess the heart of our style/format will be quality 3-4 minute guitar pop but within this format we want to explore the other interests and directions including those above and hopefully our own ideas and sounds.

let me know if this is at all something you'd be interested in cos i definitely want this to be something good long term, so its important that everyones approximately on the same page:)

I've got vox if ya still need them. I tend to be a bit of a renaissance vocalist, I can do whatever needs to be done. I used to say I'd never do heavy rock cause I didn't see the point in screaming... now I'm somehow in a cover band doing perfect AC/DC covers... so yeah, I dunno, the world rolls in interesting ways sometimes.

I'd post up some links to my music, but you seem to have cut people off cause they're not down with your thing... I tend to have a stupidly large amount of influences and I enjoy singing nearly as varied an amount of stuff, so I dunno if there's much point throwing up links, but I will.

    Solo stuff http://www.myspace.com/frankiewhelan

Again, it's only an indication of some stuff I do, I wouldn't throw myself into any genre, I wouldn't say I'm rock, or country or electro etc.

I read this thread awhile back and skipped it over cause I've done the find a band from scratch lark and seen it fall apart around me, so I'm reluctant to get my hopes up, but of late I've started to notice that being a singer/songwriter is pretty hard... I mean, I have big ideas, but there's only one of me and I'm nowhere near egotistical enough to try and form a backing band for myself.
Anyhows dude, I'm always up for a jam, but I've just read back through the thread and that Nineinchtails dude sounds pretty rawkin too, and he did get to the thread first so I guess he has first dibs on singing duties. Which is rockin.
