New to this forum, but while reading it remembered something happening me about 2 years ago with regard to smells, none of that rose or pefume smells, this was FOUL ! It was in the hallway of the house i purchased, from my mother in fact, after about a week there, give or take a few days, i was heading down to bed(bunglow) just at the end of the hall, bathroom in front of me, and a bedroom at either side the smell i got was unbeliveable, not as such gagging sick like a dead animal, but just something that was not right, quiet obnoxious is a word i would use to describe it, weird thing was it wasnt in any of the 3 rooms off the hallway, all within a metre of where the smell was, kinda had me puzled for a while, still does to be honest, anybody have any thoughts or experiences on this ?

My own feelings: My father passed away in 1985 when i was 12, and i would like to think it was him just giving me a wink and saying hi ! nice thought i know but, thats why the smell issue doesnt make much sense, wouldent it have been a pleasent smell ?

not sure, could be many things. I remember in the house we grew up in, on occasion a wafting odour (not the dogs) would drift through the hallway, turned out years later that it had something to do with the water pipes springing a leak under the floorboards. Would be an idea to have it checked out just in case.

[edit: I was going to say it would be nice to have a nice scent associated with our loved ones lol but I remember there was a particular scent I would get with my dad and it wasn't exactly what others might consider pleasant, was a mixture of olbas oil and...someone on their deathbed kinda smell, not trying to be unpleasant but that's how it was]

Only lasted a couple of hours, and has not been back since, but i did say it to my mother at the time and she told me she got a similar type bad smell just in her bedroom not long after my Dad passed away, im not a very superstitious person by nature, someone told me it could have been a moth stuck to the lightbulb that gave the smell, who knows ? just thought i would explore it some more since i found the forum.

p.s. Solas, i did have an issue with a leaking heating pipe !! but that was in another part of the house and was a p.i.t.a to find !! had to take up 3 wooden floors and a couple of floor tiles in my search !!

yep, same story here, leaky rad pipe.
Just thinking about it, that smell wasn't too disimilar to the odour I would get after my dad died, it was a smell I was familiar with being around him when he was ill, it's difficult to describe and he ould use olbas oil to help clear his airways..so it was a mixture of both.
strange you've reminded me, haven't sniffed it in ages, think I used to just have some of his stuff around immediately post his passing and the scent just lingered.
