I'm trying to work out how to mass email about 800 people (we've the addresses on an Excel worksheet) and send it without having the "sent to" field appearing at the top of the email. I know it's possible, but can it be done with web based accounts like Yahoo/Gmail? Have been searching for the last 30 minutes without success :o .

Also, could the above be done with something like Thunderbird?

    TIA

EDIT - Also posted in Webmaster/Flash

You have got to be kidding!

If you want to send a mass mail use a dedicated program to do it

You can use a desktop piece of software like Groupmail from Infacta or something server-side like phplist or DadaMail.

Forgive my ignorance Blacknight, but why couldn't you just use the bcc field (thanks paul didn't realise what that was before!)

A lot of smtp servers will reject that number of recipients to start with. It also puts a silly load on the mail server, whereas a mass mailer can break the mailing up into smaller groups, thus improving the deliverability

If you use a proper mailer you can make the email a lot more personal and have Dear $name instead of a default text

Cool. Are there any free ones you could recommend? Would this software be the kind of thing you'd have in mind?

    Thanks for your help Blacknight
