Only really really big money grabbing companies will sponser you for being a really good skater. Most sponsorships on base on (besides your skills), how nice of a person you are and your general outlook on life and skakeboarding. No one will sponsor you just after seeing a video, its a start, but they will want to meet and talk to you and stuff.

Some people get sponsored by video alone, others through word of mouth and recommendation by team skaters, but in nearly all cases, it's about being mates with the right people, skating loads, getting photos, putting together a video part, going to jams and contests, etc. Bruce the Ox is not the most gifted skater, but his attitude and presence was instrumental in him getting hooked up.

Companies sponsor skaters whom they think will advertise, promote and endorse their company in a positive light and ultimately, help sell boards. Tom Penny's boards still sold by the ****load purely off his reputation in the late 90s up to 2002 even though he had no coverage whatsoever. Same reason why Guy Mariano has a pro shoe on Lakai now, despite the fact he hasn't put out a video part in 9 years.

If you want to get sponsored, have a look at the likes of Collective, What's the Point, Dirty Dublin, Hidden, etc. and if your skating is up to par with those guys, then maybe you'll get it.

you have to ask yourself: what's in it for the companies that sponsor you?

Are there any benefits of giving you free stuff?

dont bother tryin go get a big sponser because there is a million other kids who have sent in sponser vids and chances are most of them are better than u. Just approach your local shop, if they dont have a team enquire about setting one up. Go from there.
