Its not the whole socket but the creamish/white zif leaver and cover that clamps the cpu into place. Don't ask how but the whole cover is broken and needs replacing. Anyone done this before? its a 754skt and the board is only 6mths old and is running perfect, and if i don't fix it now it will still be there in 12mths as a must finish that shortly kinda thing.

Try getting a dead 754 motherboard (with identical ZIF socket) maybe, and see if it can be removed/replaced without breaking it.

I've broken them before, but never tried fixing one O_o

ye thats pretty much what i was thinking, even to remove the remainder of the broken one was a bitch so trying to remove one from a dud board and replace it onto another board is something i probably won't be trying. Shame cos it was a great little board for clocking and testing. Another item for ebay, €20+p&p as damaged board maybe.
