All services suspended DART, Northern and Maynooth lines

We got a total suspension of all train services on the DART/Maynooth/Northern lines due a to a total failure of the control room in Connolly

There was a fault in Howth Junction which conveniently nuked the entire system

Needless to say there is a three levels of backup for this and the first 2 appear to be off as well (unlikely) and the third has not been tried since 1984

The emergency signal cabins are to be staffed, this should take only 5 minutes but services are off for 30+ minutes so far

    What a shower of wasters

I thought they waited until 5pm on friday before they collapsed the commuter rail system.. I was surprised to get stuck on the way in as well.

Maybe I'll just walk back to Skerries instead, it'll take me just as long :P

They’re not all layabouts in there. I', the son of some one who works in SE&T so I dont really appreciate your sack them and your children comment. I doubt you can claim that absolutely everything you do in work goes to plan.

I've worked in SE&T for a while. They are turning things around from when I was working there.

Your point was that they should be all fired. My point was that not all are layabout so you shouldnt be branding every one the same.

It pisses me off that some of the lazy fcukers in there cant be fired and thats why I think that the unions are one of the biggest problems in IR.

You and I are share holders in IR but fcuk all use that does for us

Actually the Minster for Transport holds the only share

What happened today was a total collapse of the suburban ctc system, that should never happen there are a long list of backups which are there to keep things moving.

But this is Irish Rail I know they don't bother to properly maintain the emergency generators, I know the remote interlocking override system (which would have saved the day today) has been unavailable at times, I sincerely doubt that the staff on the ground are trained and sufficently practiced in using the override panels if only to turn the key to automatic

By now you see a pattern IE couldn't get a damn about maintaining the system to its full ability

The SE&T crew are not typically CIE heads since they work in a professional domain and its not a closed shop and skills are transferable to jobs outside IE. The operations staff are a whole different story some are just plain ignorant of the fact they work in a customer focused business, some are actually quite decent and are pissed off with the lack of good management.

Ironically, it's probably one of these "answerable to shareholders" companies who installed the signalling system. We have all heard of companies who have cut corners to maintain profits to keep the shareholders happy.
