Strange problem with Net connection..

    Strange one here!

My Net connection has been acting up for the last day or two. Boards.ie is quite slow and a couple of regular sites i use aren't loading / 404 error for them - and i know Boards.ie is running quite well as i was on it in work. And it's not server problems on the other sites work fine on girlfriend's PC and in work today. Also some videos on YouTube don't load...

I updated the firmware on my Netopia Cayman 3347W last week but it was working fine until about 2 days ago. Nothing irregular happened.. typical day for me: was downloading various things while i was at work and set the computer to auto-shutdown when downloading was finished.

I then switched on the computer when i came home and it locked up on me soon after i i recieved an 'svchost.exe' exception window which i just ignored it. Would this be related?

Updated and scanned for Adware, Spyware, Viruses etc using Spybot, Ad-Aware, and NOD32. And nothing looks too odd in my HijackThis log (as attached below).

    Anyone have any ideas?

PS - will try looking at Boards.ie / a couple of sites that weren't working for me on the computer connected directly into the router.. as opposed to the Wireless connection i'm using right now.

EDIT: Boards and those other pages load fine on the computer connected directly to the router via the LAN so i'm guessing it was something to do with that svchost.exe exception the other day. Anyone any suggestions... or would a chkdsk or scannow sfc be the best way to go?

A quick look at your log, I see it looks normal. Well you probably know that svchost.exe handles the processes excuted from the DLLs but it believe it is also registered as a trojan or spyware. The legit svchost.exe will be present in the %Windir%\System32 folder. Try using Process Explorer to check which process svchost.exe is using as Windows Task Manager doesn't display the full path.

    Cheers Ruu.

Tried a scan with 'scannow sfc' earlier and it required me to insert the Windows XP installation disk so it needed to install / replace some (possibly corrupt) system files. But it's the same after installation! :(

Must be to do the svchost.exe exception and that Process Explorer link isn't loading for me.. so is there any chance you can provide the full path to the executable / setup file for it in this case?

As someone who's both a programmer in numerous languages and very confident with computers in general - this has puzzled me... ah well, off to try a dual-boot with a beta version of Vista now. See if by chance that makes a difference!

    Cheers again mate!

Ah for fecks sake... won't load that either!

Gonna download it on the computer downstairs when i get back from work this morning and transfer it via my USB pen or something.

Very strange that some sites it will load and some it will downright refuse!

Ruu.. just an update on this!

Got Process Manager running and everything looked fine.. printed out a HijackThis of the computer connected directly to the router which was working and my own log on my troublesome laptop connecting through wireless.

Only in a process of eliminating every process one step at a time in both was i able to discover somehow in the last update of 'PeerGuardian' - i checked 'Block HTTP' which essentially blocks any (even minorly) suspicious sites.

Bit of a nightmare but lucky i found it when i did - was very close to re-installing XP!
