    Hi,
I have a really bad sprained thumb that needs quick recovery as i have to go back to sport. I have taken an X-ray that states that nothing is broken.
Has anyone any healing advice, excercises, supports or best pain killers that may be helpful. I really need to be playing this weekend!!
    Cheers!!

did the same myself a few months ago,
I found icing it every 2 to 3 hours and taking nurofen helped it loads,
make sure you get someone to strap it up and immobilise it before you try and play on it though

Did the same myself around January. I either sprained it or broke it. Could barely move it and in a great move of stupidity decided against going to the hospital or doctors. Continued playing on with the rugby season and doing weights and now as we come to mid-August i still haev some reduced mobility and pain in my left thumb. Best bet is not to do what i did and just take the time out for it to heal.

    What Goose said. ^^^

The strapping to immobilise the thumb prior to participating in sport is VERY important. As the thumb is a highly mobile joint that is in use everyday it can take considerable time to heal properly so to minimise the chance of reoccurence strapping is the best bet.

Also once the initial pain has decreased you should go out and get some theraputty (mala/playdough for adults) to strengthen the muscles surrounding the thumb.
