Navan Road Garda Checkpoint Tonight?

Yeah, was coming down the Navan Rd tonight .. down by the dual carraigeway part by the 2 Esso garages.

There was about 5 Garda cars, a load of checkpoint signs and some Garda bikes. There also seemed to be a lot of people with cameras, sorta like TV cameras?

Anyone know what was going on? A big Garda publicity stunt? Or were they expecting a fleet of terrorists in tanks ?

Publicity stunt mostly - it was on the radio news this morning. They were also at Chapelizod at about 10:30 - and definitely doing random checking. The person I was talking to who got checked hadn't been drinking and wouldn't be in a high likelihood category. She thought it was a bit of fun to be checked.

The more checking the better, as far as I'm concerned.

One of the reporters there worked for Newstalk 106.

They were discussing it and getting statements from the garda in charge and people who passed through

2,000 cars passed through, 60 drivers were tested and all passed

    3% chance of being stopped.

If it was completely random testing. But they were probably applying a bit of intelligence to it and cherry picking those that looked likely to be returning from the pub.

My brother was pulled and tested on the N1 last week returning from the airport. He said himself he looked like an after work drinker with his top shirt button open and tie undone.
