Yes, but whatever you do, don't watch the English dubbed version. Bloody awful.

yeh the english dubbed version is terrible.

i remember watching "lola rennt" in german class back in 6th year, was great had to rent it out that weekend cause of fecking plebs talking through it plus it playing on a dodgy 14" tv.

Jaysus I would never watch a European or Asian film dubbed. Original langauge and subtitles is the way to go always.

BTW another good german film thats worth a look is Good Bye Lenin http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0301357/

Saw it in German class too, in Transition yr. Fantastic film, great script and cast. One of the first of many great German Arthouse films to have been made in recent times.

Other deadly ones; What To Do In Case of Fire?, The Edukators, and of course Goodbye Lenin!

Saw it on TV a few years ago and was well impressed. No way could I sit through a dubbed movie though, thats just wrong!

I think Germans are so used to watching dubbed films themselves (they don't really do subtitles for foreign films) that they feel they have to dub their own for export. It's particularly silly in the case of Lola Rennt. I saw it in the cinema as soon as it came out on the basis of having seen the trailer. Having watched it, I recommended it to an English friend who spoke no German at all. He watched it and loved it.

We were shown this in 4th year and I thought it was brilliant. Didn't they reference it in the Simpsons when Lisa's story happens three times and she's running around the place to the same kinda music as in Lola Rennt? :D

Has anyone seen Absolute Giganten? It's a German teen film, was brought to see it in the Kino in Cork as part of Transition Year. I like this almost as much as Lola Rennt.

Ye're all making me feel very old talking about having watched it in school! School's definitely changed a lot since I was there if they'll show that kind of film now. I think we were allowed watch Pollyanna once. And this film about a guy who was paralysed but was able to overcome everything to become a happy person in the end. I think TV3 may have actually raided my school's video cupboard for a lot of their midweek movies. :)

Lola is an excellenet film though. Another excellent film (starring the very lovely Til Schweiger) is the comedy Der bewegte Mann - have never seen it in here for rent but you can probably buy it online.

Its ok if dubbed in the right way, as in English, with the native accent

cos all Jackie Chans earlier flciks were dubbed with an American accent

and most Asian ones are dubbed with a UK accent

    BLEH!

Great movie. Remember being blown away with it when I saw it in the IFI (then the IFC). It was my first time actually in the IFI, and I thought wow, are all the films they show in here like that?

Great movie, haven't seen any of the director's subsequent work - might check some of it out now.

Saw it in 4th year too (I think, may have watched again in 5th year so we could talk about it in our oral exam). Didn't know what to expect but it was great. Brilliant film well worth the watch.
