the yolks contain the cholesterol, hence why he only eats the whites.

I'll eat ten, a ten egg ommlette is nice. 5 whites to 1 yellow. The body needs amall amounts of good cholesterol and saturated fat too!

Egg are grand, but every day is too much, especially if you are getting on in age. You need more balance in your diet, eggs being only one source of nutrients.

If you're 'cholesterol sensitive' there may be implications from eating too many eggs, but otherwise you should be fine to eat them daily. But if you are going to have a diet rich in eggs take care with the eggs you buy. Cheap, battery-hen eggs will have been fed a high-fat, low quality diet and the eggs they produce will also be low in quality. If possible buy organic and from a local farmer or from a farmers market where you can actually ask about the feed quality given to the hens.

An average egg has about 210mg of cholesterol and the American Council for Science and Health recommend up to 300mg/day. Can't find similar data for recommendations from European Councils. Many cholesterol problems stem from diets that are high in saturated fats, not high in cholesterol. And in fact eggs have a phospholipid called phosphatidylcholine which has been linked to rendering the cholesterol unabsorbable so much of the cholesterol is not taken up by the body. egg whites are literally nothing but water and protein so you could happily eat your body weight in them every day without worry. Half the eggs' protein is in the yolk, the other half in the white. And also in the yolk you get vitamin B-12, vitamin E, riboflavin, folic acid, tryptophan, selenium, iodine, phosphorous, calcium, zinc, iron, and essential fatty acids so the benefits greatly outweight cholesterol risks (which, as we've already established are negligible ;) )

    Basically? Eggs are all good

Is it possible to buy the egg whites in carton like at EggNation

I don't think you can get them in Ireland. Jon may be you could look into supplying them in the shop? :)

Yup, already on it. I was sitting watching hulk hogan on the tele one day and he pulled a large back of egg whites out of his gym bag.. I thought hmm..good idea! We're toying with the idea at the min, we'll also have good quality chicken breasts fairly soon hopefully.

I use plain old free range eggs for the whites I use (about €1.90 for six) and then for the whole eggs I use I get the Omega 3 eggs - these are fed on flax seed and have a much better Omega 3:Omega 6 ratio. These cost probably about 20/30c more per six.

Bump on this one Jon... I'd definitely be a customer if you started stocking egg whites in a carton.

To steal the Cadbury's creme egg question ... how do you eat yours? Are people eating raw egg whites and is this safe?
